Broken Windshield before pickup HELP ME

OK Paperwork was signed 31 Dec on a new car but the car was in NJ... Dealer sends a driver to pick up the car. Car arrives here at dealership yesterday and Im told that the windshield was broken as it was being DRIVEN down from NJ.... They are going to replace the windshield before it gets picked up.

My question is: Do replaced windshield have more problems? I have heard that they have.

Also: Can I tell him I no longer want the car and make him find me one that has not been damaged?

Thanks for the help guys... Supposed to ppick up the car tonight but I wanted to know how to proceed! Thanks!!!

1. Replaced windshields can have problems, but only if it was improperly installed.

2. Were you told the car would be driven, or delivered on a truck? IMO a brand new car should be delivered on a truck, NOT DRIVEN. You are paying for a new, unused car with set mileage when you sign. If the paperwork and the Odo are different, that wouldn't be too happy about that...

It was my understanding it would be Trucked down... what can I do about it with the dealer since I already signed the paperwork? DO I just stay pissed or can I do something?

So If the windshield is installed properly, even at the dealership vice the factory, it should be ok?

Yes...but you do see what they have done dont you? You are already asking questions about something you are paying $30K+ for and is supposed to be brand new. Does this make sense? Either way...you are settling. I would walk...signed papers or not. They will shit their pants at first....but fact is....you have not taken delivery on it yet. If you signed paperwork saying you did...that was not smart on your part. Just because a deal was done on one day....doesnt mean it has to be delivered that same day paperwork wise....and if you walk...does leave them with some explaining to do...right? They will then make it right somehow....if it got damaged on the way there...they have insurance to cover that...they wont take a loss. Hit em up for rims and tires or an A-spec kit or something extra for acceptiing a fixed car.

I would ask for a new car, and if they absolutely refuse that, they better find a way to make up for it (if you really want the car). You have signed paperwork for a NEW, undamaged car. That is not what you are getting, they are violating what the paperwork says. Don't let them come out on top. Like MBenz said, get them to give you A-spec wheels or something

I dont know about Jersey...I've seen some other guy from Jersey saying that they drove his brand new TSX 150 miles in order to get it to his dealer....when he got it, it had close to 200 miles on it!!! I live in florida and I requested the black on black navi manual...they only had one at the time in florida and it was located in miami (500 miles away from I stay at)...they put my baby on a flat bed and a week later I received my car with 3 miles on it (brand fucking NEW).

Seems like Jersey does things differently.

Replacing a windsheild aint as easy as i looks...you have to wear gloves and make sure no body oils touch the edges or else there will be leaks...any lil thing can ruin the installation.

Your signature did have me confused. Well get them to throw something in. I'll leave this open for a lil while longer, but this thread should belong in the car talk forum.

Signed paperwork or not, deal is not done to delivery.

When I got mine, I went there to pick it up and the door had a huge dent.

They said the prep guys must have dented in the garage, I said I don't care I don't want the car. They said they will fix it. I said fix it? You fix used cars not new cars. I paid for a new car from the factory. I didn't want a new car with a painted door.

Bottom line I said there is nothing you can do. They said ok, ripped up the contract, did it over with another one, and I left with another one.

I am sure some poor guy is going to get that car with the door repaired but I refused to have a new car repaired. Its a new car you can get it anywhere why settle?

As far as windshields go this is not the best time of year to have one replaced. Unless the car is warm in a heated facility you can definately have problems with leaks. Ideally the car should be kept in a heated environment for 4 hours after the new glass goes in to allow the glue to dry completely. I would make them get you another car.

you can walk away form the deal if you are not comfortable. I would not want a new car with a broken windsheild. the miles on the OD have to be noted on your paper work. I would walk away if I were you.

I think the consensus is for you to request a new car.

I would, too.

working on new cars everyday, i have seen it all.

you would not believe the crap dealers do to brand new cars before delivery to mask damage. just because they do not have to disclose the fact the car was damaged to begin with. and, the brand new car buyer never looks for it since it is supposed to be a brand new car.

moral - no, but done every single day.

Let me get this straight. The car had windshield damage on the way to destination... and you guys are telling him to walk?

Do you guys buy new cars every time you get a rock chip on your windshield?

Just when I thought I've seen and read it all... the 3G forum strikes me off guard again.

well while I am not going to deny that some people in 3rd gen are somewhat anal I think they do have a point. From NJ to VA is along trip with alot of miles to mess with a car and god knows what could have happend. I wouldn't be to worried about the windshield personally, windsheilds break all the time and as long as it is done right there should be no problem. I would try to get something out of the dealer as a payment for the extra miles and windshield crap but I think a new car is a little bit much to ask for, but showing that you can walk out would be a good way to start the negociating

I don't know about anyone else, but if I'm giving somebody $50,000+...I want whatever I'm getting for it to be perfect. Of course they could have fixed it and not told you...you would have never known, and all would be fine. However, they did tell you, and I'd expect $ off, a different car, or some sort of compensation. I mean they're getting 50K...what you are getting better be worth it. Just my opinion.

"My understanding"... Did you assume it would be flat-bedded to destination, or did they specifically tell you?

Unless they told you, you've got no case. It's usually at the dealership's discretion to decide whether to flat-bed or drive the car down... and they usually drive it down because it costs them virtually nothing.

It's a lovely day for a walk! New cars, especially expensive ones should be trucked to the dealer, not driven from NJ to VA?!!!! It's a gift, a very nice gift, for your dad. Don't settle for extra miles put on by some ignorant delivery boy, salesman or otherwise. They are telling you it's the windshield, but what else aren't they telling you ie:body damage?? You will be second guessing yourself every time your dad says something else went wrong with the car, wait and get him a NEW car, you can bargain for extra equipment, but that does not substitute for your piece of mind (and your dads' gift)!

My cousin and one of my friends worked for "Luxury Motors" here in the Chicago area, and they would ship half the cars, and then drive the other half to the destinations. They got a couple of nice trips to Florida is some nice rides.
