Broken shifter...

just want to share a story of something i never heard happening before.

so today i was on my lunch break heading back to work, as im shifting into fourth, i feel something break, the shifter comes waayyy back further then where fourth gear should be... and then i couldnt shift anymore!! so i let the car roll out of traffics way and luckily i keep a bunch of tools in the trunk so i took apart the center console, and find the bottom of the shifter (the ball part) broken! so i managed to get it in first gear and drove back to work very slowly... luckily i was about 2 mins away from work. so i pull it in the shop (i work at a car dealer) and took the shifter assembly out. i have a comptech short throw shifter installed which is just a little extension at the bottom of the factory shifter. the ball at the bottom of the factory shifter broke off inside the comptech piece! the guys at work couldnt get the ball out so they just welded the two pieces together... problem solved. hopefully the weld holds up

Damn that sucks lol. I've never heard of this happening either so lets hope it was a fluke.
