It's kind of strange that Acura's only using Brembos on the front wheels. I don't know of any other manufacturer that doesn't put them on all four wheels.

The photo above was in the Tokyo motor show, accessory building at the Brembo booth. They had a whole line up of brake rotors and calipers on display. I went to see if they had the Acura ones on display and was pleased to see them at the beginning of the lineup.
The Honda booth showed off cars, no accessories. The Accord wagon was pretty popular in Japan and looks pretty sporty too. As you may know, the Acura badge doesn't exist there. (But the Lexus brand is being introduced now in Japan as a higher end brand than Toyota).

To my knowledge, the orange brembos were introduced for the nissan skyline.

Could also be a braking balance issue...
Most of the aftermarket 'big brake kits' actually have too much rear brake when installed front and rear. a proportioning valve is required to 'even out' the braking. Having the rears lock up before the fronts is bad.. very bad.. a front engine car like the TL will have most of its braking (70%+) done from the front.
though i do admit that the large calipers look cool in the rear
even a car like the nsx - mid engine, with more weight in the rear, doesnt get much benefit by having a big brake kit in the rear. the Brembo kit requires a proportioning valve. Many racers simply use a BBK in the front, and for the rear a braket to fit 13.2" rotors in there with the stock calipers and better pads.
Here is an example:
http://www.scienceofspeed.com/produc...ng/default.asp
I'd be willing to bet that the brembos on the 350z either have a fairly aggresive proportioning valve setting - or - very small pistons in the rear calipers.. I doubt the latter because brembo is notorious for pawning off a 'one size fits all' caliper with a proportioning valve... (there are actually much more hi-tech brakes out there compared to brembo.. but they have the name and market recognition i guess...)

Also keep in mind that most Brembo equipped high performance cars are rear wheel drive. So they must need heavy duty braking in the rear as well.
Most of the braking on the front heavy, front wheel drive TL is done at the front wheels, so the standard oem (non-Brembo) capliers are more than enough to do the job.

I think even with rwd most of the braking happens in front (except Porsche) because the weight is still there and the weight transfer is still to the front under braking. Seems to me that ABS should take care of any problem of over braking the rears, so why the need for a proportioning valve? Maybe just to balance the braking properly in non-lock up situations (which is most of the time)?

Does anyone know whether the Brembo calipers and rotors from the 6MT TL's will just bolt-on the 5AT TL's ?? Is the brake mount area different on the MT or do they use a mounting bracket ?
The Brembo rotors for the 6MT are only 12.2" dia. vs 11.8" for the 5AT so they may have sufficient clearance with the 17" wheels depending on the size of the caliper. Brembo sells a big brake kit with 13" rotors that supposedly fits prior year TL and CL S-Types with 17" wheels.

The acura brembos should fit just fine. They use the same rims so it should be a straight swap. You will need a different spare. I dont think the braking difference should be that dramatic although I can attest the brembos are excellent.

Thanks vtech,
I am looking for an improved braking solution that is less expensive than the Brembo Big Brake kit (for $2200+). I've been following the thread on the Acura 2nd Gen TL for the slotted Rotora rotors and Axiss Ultimate pads and was trying to decide what the most productive approach was to improve the overall braking perfprmance over the stock 5AT TL.
