Brembo Brakes

What is the differences between these OEM Brembos and the standard brakes that come on an 05 TL? Is it worth the upgrade? and what is the price with installation if i were to get these installed? Thanks

Larger rotors, and 4 piston calipers. And an excessive amount of brake dust.
Slightly better stopping and slightly reduced brake fade. Also you are drastically limited to your aftermarket wheel choice when you have the OEM brembo brakes. The caliper almost sticks out past the damn hub. Poor design imo.

.... to go with the excessive stopping power. IMO.

I think they are GREAT brakes, but could be better with larger/better cooled rotors to reduce fade.

Retro-fitting a non-Brembo TL might be a little expensive. After market BBK from Rotora, etc are not cheap. Brembo's would likely be a bit more.

Besides less fade and slightly shorter stopping distance, the best advantage of the Brembo's over the stock single piston front caliper is far better linear brake modulation and feel. With the Brembo's you can easily control the amount of braking force with respect to the pedal force. Due to the much larger amount of friction in the single piston caliper the ability to control and modulate the braking force is not as linear as the Brembo's.

FWIW, Brembo has special coating on their caliper pistons for their high-end brakes. The coating and the process is a trade secret which lowers the piston friction.

the auto trans cars got standard- single piston brake calipers
The 6speeds got 1 inch larger diameter rotors with 4 piston calipers
Swapping is not realistic
Many upgraded rotors and pads for the standard brake cars that will make the TL a stopping machine are readily available

Nope it isn't. If you have the proper mounting bracket then its a straight switch out. However you have to get the 6spd rotors.

when u get the calipers the knuckle has to be swapped as well correct? that would include the speed sensor and bearing.

How expensive is it to replace the pads, this is my first car ever with brembos. Im used to having cars with pads that can be bought at Autozone.

Here is some related info to who ever mentioned there is a slight difference between 1 and 4 pistons....

OEM (floating) vs 4 piston (non-floating): Most of the brake kit currently being sold is the single piston OEM type caliper. In order for the caliper to squeeze the rotor it has to use a floating design, otherwise it would only apply pressure from one side to the rotor. Because of this design you loose approximately 100 psi. 4 piston caliper squeeze from both sides and are fixed (don't float), so they (4 piston) do not require as much pressure. The single piston caliper also requires more volume to work.

In other words, of course there is a big difference...

do you own a TL with the Brembos?

having driven both a non-Brembo and my 6-speed, i can wholeheartedly defend that it is a night and day difference as far as brake feel and stopping, not just a slight difference.

Brembo pads will usually run you around 90-150 wherever you shop.

not to be picking on you, but since when does a Brembo (or ANY BBK) caliper NOT go out past the hub? every one that i have seen has. it's not a matter of poor design at all. that's how it is.
