Breaking in my new TL
Hi all. After a few agonizing year of driving my '97 camry, I finally saved enough to make a good downpayment on an alabastic silver '06 auto. Anyway, I took it on to the freeway right after they delivered it to speed up the engine break-in period
. All I can say is that it is an ENORMOUS upgrade from my camry in every single department.
So I did a good job of varying the speed and keeping it below 4k RPM. However, while I was driving home at about 60 mph, some idiot drving a truck cut right in front of me, and I, being used to the slow-braking reflexes of my old Camry, stomped on the brake pedal which made the TL make that awful, loud, pulsing, beating/grinding sound (like ABS or something came on). I was so furious at him and at myself. The car only had 30 miles on it!
My question is, do you think braking like that when the car is so new and sensitive will have a very negative affect on my car? The poor thing was abused within one hour of meeting it's new owner!! Am I overreacting? I just want my baby to grow up healthy lol.

It will be fine something like that happened to me on a few of my new cars. The 01 CL S I had still had the original brakes when I sold it with 78,000 miles on it.
Like anything else, if you constantly stomp on the brakes and bounce off the rev limiter, it can impact the life of the car. Drive it as you would every day. Of course any new set of wheels takes some driving time to get used to; how it handles, etc. Most dealers will say there is no break in period other than maybe some gentle braking for the first 500 miles...

I would not worry too much about the hard braking. However, this is not a good way to introduce yourself to your new love. To keep a longlasting relationship, you need to spend alot more TLC going forward.
Sorry, for a second there (when I was reading the thread title), I thought you were trying to break in to your own car. I was thinking, "why not just unlock the door with your key fob?"
Don't mind me, didn't sleep much last night.

I think he/she should change the thread title to "braking" in my TL to make it more appropriate
