Break Torque Method

I was wondering if the break torque method is safe in terms of its damage, if any, to the breaks or tires or engine or tranny. I know it can make your acceleration faster and it sounds pretty cool when you are revving up your engine to 2000 rpms, but does it damage your car in any way?

If not, what is the correct way to do it

I'm sure it might break something. On the other hand, brake torque is probably not a problem done in moderation.

It's not necessarily bad, you wear out your front tires more and waste gas. It's fun, I do it coming off of highways

Of course it's harmful

Why do you think they call it "break" torque?

It doesn’t work well in the 04 TL for quick launches.

There is a limiter that won't let the engine rev over 2k.

The best 60 foot time is achieved with a very light foot on the break and then applying full thought moderately. Don't stamp on the gas or the car will hesitate for a fraction of a second.

I have tested the TL many times at the strip. Too bad Break torqueing doesn’t work well in this car. If it did, I know I could lower my ET and raise my MPH by 2 or 3.

60 foot times are everything for good ¼ mile times. But that is a different thread all together.

MasterTL doesn't seem to realize that we are having a laugh that he doesn't know how to spell 'brake'

The rev limiter in the TL i s at 5k. Why not just put it in neutral, hit the limiter, and drop it into drive?

I spelled it "break torque" because thats how he spelled it. Thought he meant brake but I could have been wrong.

Because that could cause severe damage to the transmission. I know because I used to do it when I was 15 in my 86 Camry. Most of that car's problems were directly caused by me....

No harm done in brake torqueing excepot maybe some tire squeal, but what you just described will quickly and methodically tear the tranmission apart, trust me I did it in my first car! Brake torqueing seems like it would be the quickest start time, but then again I have done stopped acceleration tests hundred of times with this car. From my perception, brake torqueing, mashing with VSA on or off, and just going light on pedal to start then pushing down all the way produce NEAR parallel results. Anyone have research numbers? I will definitely take to the track soon....

Using the "Brake Torque" method in the TL is useless unless you want to slow the car down. The amount of RPM's the engine can climb to during a brake torque is in direct relation to the torque converter and computer, not a "rev limiter".

The computer holds back timing when you apply the brakes for a hard launch so the harder you push the more hesitation you'll get when you let go of the brake. I've been told there are ways to get around this but haven't tried them and don't plan too, the TL while powerful was not built for fast launches with the 5AT so unless you don't mind voiding the warranty by modifying things, you're best served taking off at just above idle... Acura's take on things is obvious to anybody familiar with the lousy SS mode this car has, that was a big clue :sqnteek:
