Question Break-in Technique and Period

Has anyone gotten the definitive word from Acura on the break-in technique and duration on the '04 TL?

I was told in the first 600 miles:

No jack rabbit starts
Vary highway speeds
Don't slam on the brakes

Just like the manual says.

Own- 600 miles before getting on it.

Lease- 6 miles, or as soon as you get out of the dealers lot. :lol2:

Actually, I took it easy on mine for a while to break it in right.

Does this apply to the 6 spd, how many RPM's would you stay under?

The hard on the brakes thing is 200 miles and thats not only for a new car but any time you get new brake pads.....

The jackrabbit starts are what I was real careful about.. and it is tough becuase people pass you when you dont speed up fast from a red light!

Most people are varying speed anyway.. I think as long as you do not use cruise for a long period of time you should be ok.. (although this is not anywhere in the manual it is always genrally recommedned...)

I am happy to be about double past my breakin period!

You could play safe and go the 600 before "getting" on it, but I think once past 600 it is better to gradually increase rpm and how far down you push the gas pedal (and how often) maybe over the next 600 miles, and by then you should be driving it the way you want to and will going forward. The manual says it, no jackrabbit starts, vary rpm, and a little easy on the brakes for 200 miles. Beyond that just don't abuse the machinery (we all know when we are doing that). I plan to start out using 4000 as my "redline" and no foot to the floor for at least a few hundred miles...and so will be driving much the way I do everyday for the most part except when irrational exuberance sets in from time to time!

i know everybody will cry when they hear this one, but a buddy of mine went to the extreme with his 2000 Civic Si. He didn't take it over 4000 RPM's for the first 5000 miles and changed the oil every 1000 miles for the first 5000 miles. I tell you what that car has the strongest Vtec that I have ever felt. All that he has done is an intake and exhaust. He raced a friend in a 2001 Integra Type R with intake and exhaust as well and pulled about 4 car lengths on the R. Now if you ask me the break in period is kinda extreme but I am convinced and will do this when I purchase my new TL.
