Brakes

So I just lost my job and need to get new front pads and possibly rotors for my 2008 TL-S and I am trying to get them as cheap as possible. My car has just under 15,000 miles and the wear indicator is very close the the rotor. I was thinking that I might get new pads and rotors and save the rotors for the next brake change and get them turned.

Could you tell me the cheapest place to get OE Brembo pads and rotors?

Thanks,
Mike

Try Cmax Gold ceramic pads from Autozone. I think they run around $60.00 a pair. Lifetime warranty and low dust.

I want to stick with OE pads since I hear they have the best stopping power.

I am not sure why they have worn so quickly. I do not brake hard so I am not sure what the deal is.

OE Brembo pads aren't cheap. Cheapest you are going to get them for is $150, for just the pads. If you buy at a dealer parts counter, they are over $200.

If you out of work, purchase Wagner Thermo Quiet MX1049 $31.79 and get a $15 rebate.

I think these were the ones a shop told me they would put on mine. They didn't end up replacing them because they said I still had another 7-8K miles in them but they told me they'd use Wagner Ceramics on it.....are these good?

Measure the thickness of the remaining pad material on all 4 pads, don't go by the wear indicator on a single pad. Service limit is 1/16" (1.6mm). I find it hard to believe you need new pads. You definitely don't need new rotors....and as long as they're relatively smooth and even, you don't need to turn them. I'm on my second set of pads without turning the rotors and they're fine at 101K....

He could be on the pads, if there is a lot of city driving. I replaced mine this weekend, they were at the minimum, with 23k miles. Brembos on the 5AT TL-S's aren't the most durable things in the world, they seem to do much better on MT's.

Is REDSTUFF LOW DUST SUPERSTREET - by EBC a good pad to use with the stock rotor? I heard ceramic pads are better than OEM pad. They last longer than 20k miles.

Running at right around 40k on OEM pads. Really think it depends on your driving style and conditions.

Most OEMs use ceramic pads these days. I'm 90% sure the non Brembo cars use the Akibono ceramics from the factory. Not sure about the Brembos. Just about anything is going to work fine. The Brembos are overkill for daily driving and you're not going to come close to fading them in normal or spirited driving.

Unless you're having issues, don't touch the rotors. The stock pads are pretty gentle and there's no way they're at the wear limit or need to be turned.
