brakes

well, my 08 tls has 27k miles and is ready for pad replacement. want to find out from ppl who have experience changing their own pads.
is it absolutely necessary to resurface the rotor? 1st brake pad change and my rotors are not warp in anyway but there is a light grove starting to appear at the very inner edge of the rotor, if so i will have a machanic who is a friend that will charge me $120.00 labors to install and resurface the front rotors and brakes.
what do you guys think?
thanks in advance for your input and response.

I have read on here that if the rotors are not warped turning is not nessesary. Just put some new pads on and bed them down good. That is what I plan on doing when the time comes. The price you got quoted sounds pretty good but what pads are they putting on?

If they aren't warped, then you don't need to resurface the rotors. Clean em up and remove any glazing and pad material.

The pads are so easy to change it's insane. You remove 2 pins, take the old pads out, put in new, replace the pins. The caliper doesn't even need to come off. It takes longer to get the front of the car jacked up and on stands than it does to change the pads.

You dont need to machine your rotors. Unless you have somehow warped them (which you havent) they should be fine. Your friend is charging you a lot! You should be able to do your brakes yourself in a couple of hours if it is your first time. check the garage for advice and walkthroughs.

I did my front pads for less than $50 6 months ago.

i plan on giving the cmax gold from autozone for $60.00 a try since that seems to be a pretty positive feedbacks on this forum.

I know the OEM pads are more expensive, but that is what I recommend you use. Yes, they create a lot of brake dust, but they perform exceptionally.

If cost/brake dust is a concern then you can go for alternatives, but the OEM rotors work the best with the OEM Brembo pads.

don't even need to jack up the car. I just turn the wheels, 2 pins on each side. Watch out for the lever/spring in between the 2 pins. Once you pull out 1 pin the thing might come flying off. Almost got a good black eye from it.
