Brake Questions
Brake Questions
I have 31k on my 04 TL. I just brought it in for the 30k service and I told them about the steering wheel shaking. So they called me back and said the rotors where warped (which i figured) and that I had a little bit of brake pad left. So they want $300 to resurface the rotors and new pads. I know how to change the brakes myself.
I want to do the work myself and save some money but I was interested in what kind of rotors people were using. I was looking at some Brembo blanks and have them slotted (dont want them drilled).
Does anyone have information on the Brembro blanks or any other rotors.

That's interesting. This may be a different situation, but....
My 04 Accord (that I traded for the TL) had "warped" rotors at less than 5,000 miles; it was to the point where I'd have to hold onto the steering wheel with both hands gripped tightly while holding on for my life at each stop (so-it-seemed). Honda "resurfaced" my rotors without charge. Now granted your car has more mileage on it, but wouldn't that be covered under the warranty or not? I mean - it was quite obvious to the Honda dealer that it was my fault the rotors were warped due to my driving...and they still fixed them without any cost to me.
I'm just curious (and excuse my ignorance)..............

BTW - lots of things can cause the rotors to warp, not just your driving. They tried to claim that the hills in SF were the cause....
Sftroy....

Hopefully DriveSlow will be able to go back to the dealer and get a better deal.

The pads for the TL probably retail for $35 - $40 a set, so that's at least $120 of it (for all four wheels) before you even get started. Add in the labor and the machining costs for the rotors and you're there.
Heck, that ain't a bad price at all for a dealer job!

If you have a A/T then you should consider upgrading to the ROTORA slotted rotors. The 99-05 TL A/T share the same rotors and many 2nd gen TL members run the ROTORA slotted rotors and love them. They will help dissipate heat, are less prone to warpage, and thus helps improve stopping power. PM me for more info. The 99-03 rotors were prone to warpage and to continue resurfacing the rotor will just cost you money without a true solution. When you resurface or cut into a rotor you shave off material and then increase the chances of warpage due to less material on the rotor and imbalanced heating/cooling of the rotor.
