Brake Question
Brake Question
I have about 53,000 miles on my 05/AT. I bought a new set of pads a while back (found a great deal on ebay) I've periodically checked the pads for the past 6 months, yet it seems like there has been very little change in that timeframe? I commute 92 miles roundtrip to work every day, and try to use the brakes as little as possible, but I would think by now the pads would be close to needing replacement, but there's still about half the pad left! Is this normal?
The rotors do seem to have a little warp to them, There's a slight shudder when i hit the brakes, but I know that's because when i do use the brakes it's usually at high speed. Should I just have the rotors resurfaced now and stick it out with the original pads or should I wait till it's time for replacement?

Yes thats normal. Brakes shouldn't be in need of replacement after 6 months of highway driving. Not even the 6spd guys are wearing down that fast.
What type of pads did you put on? You'll likely have them for a long time, so it depends on how much the shudder bothers you.

The pads on there now are the same ones that came with the car. I've been checking the life on the pads since I bought new ones 6 months ago, I have yet to install new pads.
Ahh, ok. It's going to be hard to notice any amount of wear unless it is significant without actually measuring how much pad is left. If you want to try out the new pads and get rid of the shudder, turn the rotors and install them.
53,000 miles
I would see if the rotors can be resurfaced or consider replacement with upgraded parts.
These pads from ebay- what brand are they- pads are what really make the car stop!
If you got a deal on some Hawk HPS- score!!!
Never resurface rotors and re-use old pads- 2 fresh pieces work best
Thats like changing your oil and not the filter
Stop using your transmission as a braking system.
Trans expen$$$$ive to replace
Brakes relativly cheap in comparison.
Many gen 3 owners here are getting only 25-30K out of the front pads
rears usually in the 60-70K range
