Brake dust shield / backing plate
Some call it a dust shield, some call it a backing plate apparently. Anyways, my driver side front one rusted right off. Do I really need a replacement? Does it matter?

it will help keep snow/rain/debris out the rear side of the rotor that can cause braking issues. You can probably get one cheap from a junkyard/salvage yard. Can you drive without it? Probably but in the long run it might cause additional damage without it. Also check your axles, if the dust shield rusted off the axles may be rusting under the rubber damper.

I ripped mine off (only rears) because mine were corroded too about 4 or 5 years ago. Also my jpipe heat shield is off and both muffler heat shield off too. Car seems okay still
