brake clicking noise?

I have 500 miles on my new 04 TL. One of the things that bothers me is I hear cliking sound everytime I press brake pedal. It is not loud but still noticable especially when the sound system is off. Can anybody tell me if this is normal? If it is why does the brake make this clicking sound?

Thanks,

Hey c_gator, I have that as well. I bet it has something to do with as spring or something in the brake pedal. I am going to bring this to the attention of the service department when I eventually go in to get mud flaps added. Let us know if you get to the dealership first and what the fix is.

Yes, I've noticed this, too. Thought it was normal, so didn't say muchh about it.

I have no idea if this is true, but the sales manager at the Boise, ID dealership said this is why the 6MT was being delayed. They were testing different materials that didn't "clack" on the Brembos. Seeing that some of you dont have Brembos, maybe its something other than the Brembos.

This happens on our MDX, but only once when starting out -- the dealer said it was the calipers adjusting. Not sure if it is the same on the TL's.

Yep, I had the same thing happen on my '01 CL-S. The dealership was never able to solve this problem.

Hopefully, this is not going to be an issue when its time for me to buy the TL.

It can't be the calipers. The sound comes from within the cabin. It is simply the materials on the pedal and its linkage, I think.

I think that the calipers are the problem, I have the 04TL and a Oddysey and they both do it.

Could the sound be coming from the switch that activates the brake lights when you step on the brake pedal?

Maybe you guys are talking about the interlock for the AT shifter, there is a solinod that clicks to release the shifter out of park when you press on the brake.

I only hear the noise when the car is in park and press on the brake, when in drive, it goes away, maybe the interface is not working properly and is clicking the solinoid even when in drive on some cars?

Fuque is correct. It's a relay that activates the brake lights since they are LED's you need a high current wire for them. Hence the relay.

It's not the brake light switch, I've checked that out for slowly pressing on the brake and watching the lights come on and the noise comes on a bit after the brake lights come on. I hear the clicking noise everytime I press on the brake pedal. I think it is in the brake pedal mechanism because you can hear it is inside the cabin.

Sorry, you are incorrect, the LED's draw much less current than and incandescent bulb. Typically 10 times less.

Yeah you're right...

It still sounds like a relay to me though...

Did you guys figure out if the clicking is normal yet? I just started getting it. It usually clicks after the second time pressing on the brake pedal. If I don't press it for a while, the first time is usually silent, subsequent brake presses produce the clicking sound.

I like to say it's normal characteristic for Honda vehicles.

Three different service managers told me the same story in the past years. My stupid dealer told me again about 04TL in November. Most of Honda/Acura vehicles have the similar sound. Not all of them, but many of them do. My 94Legend has it since 94, no one is able to fix it.

That clicking sound is from the brake/calipers/brake seat. When your car brakes in the first try after changing the direction, your brake would easily have this sound from the relocation of your brakes, especially when you back your car. This really sounds like your brake having the problem or you have something loosing or mis-locating underneath your frame. It's probably the design defect/flaw by Honda, but not sure why it carries over many years. Perhaps, Honda keeps it for some reasons.

Like my cars, if I drive into my basement garage, I try to back my car into the spot, I will hear clicking sound in my first brake in my echo-clear space.

Then, if I cannot park well in my first try, I have to move forward to get better angles, I probably will get another clicking sound in my first brake, too.

This could happen in many different occasions, not limit in those two cases.

Update: this is the metal-clicking sound you can hear in the quiet environment as you roll down your window. Not all Honda cars have. If you talk about something different, see the update below by Altersys & Ken1997TL in my quote, thanks...

The MDX does what you're describing, but this sound is really very different . The clicking is much quieter and sounds like its coming from in the cabin/footwell. That's why it sounds like a relay switch to me rather than the brakes themselves. PLus, the sound occurs with just the slightest press of the pedal, before any actual brake engagement has occurred.

What youre describing is Honda's floating brake pad...

Ok ok, this sound as Ken1997TL said, "The click is when the brakelight goes on.

Try it. When you GENTLY push the pedal (enough not to turn on the brake light) there is no click, push just a little bit more, it'll click at the same time as the light going on.
"...

This is true...

What I described is the metal-clicking sound from outside of the car. I thought you guys talking about this....

Since this thread started and upon paying closer attention, there are two clicking noises w/our MDX -- one upon starting out (calipers adjusting) and one whenever the brakes (or brake light) is activated by enough pedal pressure. Not sure if it is the same on the TL.

Somewhat confusing reading this thread but it seams like there may possibly be two different sounds?? Our 02 Odyssey makes this sound the first one or two times you apply the brakes after it has been sitting for awhile. I've been told it is the calipers and it is normal. We have 34K on it and have had no braking issues so I haven't pursued it.

Should be the same....

The calipers is working ok in the past years with all Honda vehicles...

The brake-light switch sound should be hurtless to your car...
