Bought Parktronic System on Ebay... my review

It was $15.00 shipped for the Central unit and four sensors. Prior to installing it on my car, I needed to know if this was even legit enough to bother doing so. So I mounted the four sensors on a piece of wood (pics to follow) and plugged it into a DC power adapter (from my little brother's RC car battery charger) and tested it out.

I think the one I purchased has the distance in meters, b/c the max distance it reports on the console is 1.5, and the smallest distance is 0.0 At any rate, after testing my "trial bumper" (sensors attached to a 6" x 4 foot piece of wood plank), i noticed at the guage reported 0.0 when I actually had another 1.5 feet till I hit the potential obstacle. There was not much accuracy.

I don't imagine that the $50-100.00 systems that are also sold on Ebay are going to be any more accurate, despite their increased price. I am not sure how the Acura designed system works and I'm not sure how accurate that particular system is, but I could only imagine that it's more accurate than this one.

the system is designed and built so you wont hit the object behind you. so it giving you 1.5 feet is a good thing. if it was accurate, you would be hitting the object right? just my opinion. my cousins nissan armada gives you about the same distance when the pinging becomes a constant tone.

I guess you're right. I was looking at it from a parallel parking point of view. I live in Chicago, and the main reason for me installing it would be to quickly know how close I was to the car behind me. I guess this type of system isn't gunna help me too much. Good point, however.

All systems have a similiar sized cushion built in. Stock and aftermarket. It is a safety issue. It also prevents you from crashing and blaming them. Jus practice and know that when it say 0.0, you can still reverse for 4 seconds or however you want to time it.

15 bucks seems like a good deal.

When you install it, Peter, can you post installation pictures? And a link to the product for those interested in something similar? Depending on ease of install, it might be worth a look.

Let's just say this, if what I've described to you is what you need in a parktronic system, and if $15-30 isn't breaking the bank for you, I think it's worth a shot. Now, remember that in order to make it flush, you need to drill holes into your bumper. Ebay has some basic color coded sensors available (silver, black, white), but not the unique acura colors of course.

Uh oh, that I did not know. I thought it went behind the bumper.

I am floundering, but free is probably not worth drilling the bumper.

Moreace...

I checked ebay.. no rosta products currently listed....

If I end up drilling my bumper, I am definitely gunna get the silver sensors so that in case I end up not being satisfied w/ the system, it won't look ... too ugly just having the four silver sensors on my bumper.

Do you think that would interfere with the signal?

I give no guarantees. My though is the plastic is a cover anyways. The sensor is behind that. If it already is covered by plastic, than what is a thin layor of paint going to do. I believe they use radar too and don't seem to detect things for a distance. That is why it goes off when you still ahve 2 feet of room. I don't think somethign that close can register. Any bug or dirt on the sensor would then render them useless. Try on one or two. You really don't need more than 2 and $15 anyways. Seems harmless enought to try. I doubt it will effect it at all.
