Bottom Subframe Changed

I hit the side of the road when i was drunk midnight. Autoshop had alignment check and told me that the whole right suspention system is gone , meanwhile the subframe needs to be replaced. Does anybody know if there is any problem after changing a new suvframe?

I don't know the answer to your question, but, like others said, be prepared for flaming. Why the hell were you drunk and driving?

Let's see:

TL + Drunk + Driving = STUPID

I think u need to change your brain before you change you subframe.

Changing the sub frame is major surgery and there are no guarantees that it will ever be the same

Good point.

I went off topic with the flaming also, but we should really get back on topic.

One of my cousins was killed by a drunk driver. Her husband and their children survived, but the kids were very young at the time, and they've lived most of their life without their mother.

It's crazy that someone would admit that they're the type of person who would drink and drive and still expect people to provide helpful advice on how to repair their car.

The only advice I would give is please don't drink and drive. People like you kill innocent people, and destroy families.

It's unfortunate that natural selection did not do you in. I would have figured that your mom would have....nevermind.

As for the subframe, good luck getting that replaced and having the car be the same.

What is included in the subframe? What area is that?

I thought once the frame was damaged, it was basically a gonner ?

Giving out the fact that you were drunk on a public road, causing damage to your vehicle is not going to win you friends on your first post.

I'd be worried if this forum were friendly to someone like that.

Vancouver EH?

I am all for heavy drinking, but getting behind the wheel is just dumber than dirt.
The best outcome is that you kill yourself, before you kill someone else.
That is rough, but true. Instead of your little incident, what if you crossed the line and had a head on with mom and the kids?

The sub frame is a large alluminum piece that holds the suspension and engine to the body. I am sure its REAL expensive, and it will cost a LOT to change as the motor has to come out. If the body mounting points were bent, you are screwed, and most likely no matter what they do it will never be right 100%.
Get rid of the car and get a scooter.

Brett

You'll get your answer here, but don't think you won't get flamed or criticism for posting that it happened based on the fact that you were DRUNK and DRIVING. Use some common sense .

The car isn't a gonner, but it will never be the same. Good luck with it. Think 3 times over next time you get behind the wheel while intoxicated. You were lucky this time, but your luck won't last forever.

OK, I think the drunk driving issue has been covered....
-- Lets hope everyone just practices what they preach..

As for your TL/sub-frame... Without seeing the car/being the technician making a legitimate assessment, no one here will know the status/severity of your damage. For any of us to say your car "will never be the same" is pointless.

Depending on how hard/how you hit the curb and subframe/suspension, you probably just bent the suspension and surrounding frame area enough that it needs replacement. Better to have it replaced than someone attempting repair.

Overall, on a uni-body car they utilize a front subframe to hold the engine, drivetrain, and suspension components. Not only does this add rigidity and strength to the front end but also isolates much of the unwanted vibrations/noise from the drive components etc.. Usually in an accident like yours the subframe is bent just enough that replacement is required otherwise proper alignment can not be achieved. The car will be fine.

-- I give you a + for admitting you were drunk,, unless you thought it would impress or imply some bragging factor...

Just have a reputable shop perform the repairs and learn from your mistake.

Honestly, we are not friendly at all towards people who drive while drunk, and the only sympathy we would offer is to the people that you might have hurt or killed when driving in that condition.

I doubt very much that you will find anyone in any forum anywhere who will empathize in any way with a drunk driver who suffers injury to either himself or his car or personal property.

It is a personal choice to drive or not to drive when drunk, and you made the wrong choice.

Sub frame #1 front #12 rear. Major undertaking to change sub-frame. Larger body shops have frame straightening equipment.
