Botched touch up paint job!

Hey members, I was about to touch up a large scratch i had on my side, but i thought I would test it first on a spot on the hood. Long story short, I made a small white spot look like a huge blunder! I have a NBP, and the blunder is sitting flush on my hood for everyone to see!

Anyone have any solid suggestion on what i can do besides an overall paint job on my hood. Hoping i can turn to you guys for advice.

I am not much of a painter, but I might try to wetsand it so it evens out, and the buff it out to remove all the scratches, maybe then the touchup paint will look flush with the rest of the paint ... wait for others input before trying this, if it were me though I would probably give this a shot

First you should remove the botches attempt with some solvent/paint thinner asap. I recommend to take it to someone that has the skill to touch it up as best possible. It may be better to just buff/polish it, instead of touching up. If it needs t/u paint, the scratch needs to be filled with paint, dried, lightly wet sanded/smoothed into the surface, then buff/polished.

I could guide you through the repair... but the real expert on this forum is: JESSTZN.

Send him a PM, and he will give you all the dirt on how to repair it properly.
Don't worry... it can be done.

Do you own a polisher?
If not, I'd recommend getting a Porter-Cable D/A polisher.
It's the best tool you'll ever own (and you'll own it forever).

Yeah my hood and bumper have more CHiPs than the California Highway Patrol! So I'm just going to get them both repainted soon. I'll let you know how much it cost me.

yeah, i just got a quote to get repainted at $550-$700. The front bumper and hood. Does anyone know if that sounds reasonable? It is tempting.

you're gonna have to sand it down then...
it's surprising how much work even "touch ups" are...check out the wash and wax forum...you need to sand it down first or something...

That's a good/reasonable deal if your front end is beat up w/ rock chips, ect. Also good, if its a high end shop that does quality work, will be removing/de-trimming the bumper, and if they offer a lifetime warranty on the paint material, and warranty on workmanship.

Now if its just some random shit hole, Macco type shop that uses lower quality materials, ect I would say it's not a good/reasonable deal.

There is actually quite a few expert detailers and a few master painters on this board.
