Smile Body Side Molding (Yes/No)

Hello everyone,
Just curious about your take on the body side molding on 3rd gen TL... (yes or no). Some ppl says they killed the flow of the car, some says they make the car complete.... well, whatever the reasons maybe, i'm still interested in the general thoughts on these molding on the car. by the way, these moldings came with the car. the entire package was negotiated into the deal of the car.

Car does not look any cleaner to me (too subtle to be of notice) without it than on. Stella has the molding and she looks good with it on!

She also looks good without the door dings that you can get if you don't have it.

Dude, asking about the bodyside molding tho is like asking what color do you think I should get! C'mon...you're the one paying the note! What do we look like telling you what to do on your car? What people should do is cut and paste the different looks they are interested in into a folder on their desktop so they can judge for themselves. Cut and paste a couple of pics of both profiles into a folder on your computer and juxtapose them on your screen and judge for yourself which is better! We have different tastes, so too hard to get what you need from a forum in regards to taste-type questions.

Some skinny guys love fat women, but others wouldn't be caught dead with them! Ya feel me?

Deep words darksom1 I do enjoy few curves on the car. but people seems to have overwhelming dislike towards them. I didn't even know what they'll look like before I bought the car. I threw everything in before I started to negotiate for the price of the car (just so I won't get option this and option that after the settlement). I guess you said it right.... different strokes for different folks

The one on the driver side door appears not to be straight. It looks like the middle portion in pushed up more than where it begins and ends. Unless that is an anomaly in the picture.

I don't know who stella is? If that's your ride, then it's going to blend better with your NBP.

I like them and have them on my SSM TL but the ones shown in the photos don't appear to have been applied straight. That would be a problem for me.

This is good advise, but the OP asked for opinions. I would never knock someone's ride, which I didn't, unless they did this...https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...9&postcount=89 and even in that thread I didn't say anything about it.

My feeling is the TL looks good with or without them. It's just a personal preference thing. To me, the TL starts to kind of look like a Bimmer when it has the BSM on it. Is that good or is that bad? It's neither; just the way it is. Ultimately, it is what you want. If you think they look good, then leave them on. The funny thing is: when people don't have the BSM, they want to add it; when they have it, they want to take it off. Anything to keep the TL modifications alive!!!

Good looking car. You bought it, you do what you like.

I think the problem with the molding is that it clashes with the "channel" that runs the length of the car. The contrast of the "inny" and the "outty" and "dual strip" are distracting.

JMHO.

Honestly - I thought I wanted them when I forst got my TL - I wanted it protected in everyway possible.......but after seeing the "with" and "without" I think they screw with the body channel already in the car.

if you're that concerned about door dings, you can get the 3m ppf applied to the sides of the doors.

Leave 'em on... I have them on mine... they accentuate the lines, in my opinion, and lend a more robust appearance to the car. After seeing the two photoshopped pics (nice job, by the way ) my feelings were confirmed. It looks real sharp. (I can't really see that "crooked" BSM, either. Might be an optical illusion.)

Be different... And protect your investment!

still waiting for 06 mdx dvd navi unit. Once I get it, I'll slap everything in. it's that dame new HFL/XM module. the newer TL dvd navi unit only take the new module. supposely, the 06 mdx can take the new HU and accomodate the old HFL/XM unit. But I'm still on it, I'll keep everyone posted

How about you? How have you been? did you get the steering wheel and rims for your Stella?

I would at least have the rims now, if it wasn't for this trip I'm going on for a week on the 14th. But I'm hanging in there...that steering wheel had to get moved down on the list tho. I'm thinking of lowering it even before the rims. I gotta break the phobia of the "ride quality" tho...

Agree! other people's lawn is always greener I guess that's why we like to mod our rides and do different things to the car I like what you did to your front grills. you're the only one I know with that kind of unique and distinguishable grill on 3rd gen TL. that spells brettallica all the way

well, one thing at a time... it's still gonna be a while before the 4th gen comes out... between now and then, you'll have all the time in the world to play with Stella. I'll be careful when it comes to the suspension of our ride. looking good is one thing, but riding good is what we really needs. let me know how it goes. maybe i'll follow suit

but like your list of things to do, I'm gonna see if I can track down the good deal on that dame dvd navi unit. let me know if you have some leads. I want to also modify the tail lights and the side mirror

I had to vote to lose em. Think the lines of the car are much better if they are not interrupted by the BSM's.

TAKE THEM OFF! It just takes away from the beauty of the car. I kinda always like the way it's placed at the bottom of the car on the Audi S4...although the doors on the TL are a bit rounded so I'm not sure that will work on our cars.

Mud guards is another thing that takes away from the car...should be taken off.

Bottom Line: BSM's look horrible on the TL!!!!

Expecting a BSM to protect against all car doors is a little optimistic. Car doors open at different heights based on shape, angle, and ride height.

The TL has a long groove along the entire side of the car through the door handles. Adding a raised BSM to the side totally throws the look off big time. BSM's look OK on cars that have a flat panel like the S4 pic above. The side of the new MDX requires a BSM in my opinion.

Finally, find a professional dent guy in your area. I use them religiously and they are fantastic at removing dings.
