Body kit not matching paint

I have recently bought a anthracite '05TL/navi, with the A-Spec body kit and the lip spoiler. But you can really see the difference in color (its actually darker) of the body kit. Today I took it to the dealer to get it fixed, but the service manager told me that "the color is going to be off since the paint in metal is defferent than in plastic". They did change the body kit for a new one (I noticed this since I had scratched on it), but I was wondering is there is a solution to this. Would the dealer give me a discount for the off-color kit?

every a-spec body kit that you see will be a slightly different color it just matters if ur lucky or not to get a color that is closer to yours. WDP suffers greatly from this

Unfortuneatly... A known problem. Check out a white TL whence you get a chance and compare the front bumper to the rest of the car. Way different...

I recall one person getting parts of their car painted by a non-Acura place and they color matched better, but for the most part, I think it is what it is.

The guy at the dealer told me that it was a known issue in white an anthracite colors...lucky me. So anybody knows if the dealer would accept a discount on the price of the kit?

hmmm... black seems to be ok in all lighting.. i've heard of guys with black cars and their spoilers have WAY more blue pearl in it then the rest of the car... so in certain lighting the spoiler is blue while the rest of the car is black. But my kit seems to be ok

me too

My anthracite kit is slightly darker than the rest of the car too. It's most noticeable in my garage.

do a search in the picture section...someone recently (2-3 weeks) posted pictures of that anthracite body kit which was also way off...I think it is a known issue with AM...I am not happy the way my bumpers dont match the rest of the paint...I guess the different material is causing this...

The darker colors are best for matching: Red, Blue, Black Anthracite..

My Satin Silver TL .. has about four shades of silver: 1) body silver, 2) lip spoiler silver, 3) body kit silver, 4) XM antenna silver, 5) OEM bumper silver

We're one big happy silver family.

so is there anything we can do about it? I know its a known issue, but having different shades of color in the car doesn't make the car look so good

Short of having a body shop repaint it, no. I would ask for a refund if it's really bothering you, or have them cover the mismatch under warranty.

You have an especially strong case if you purchased your car with the kit. There should be no excuse that a brand new car comes with bumpers with differing colors!

I know its probably been said, but don't you guys think it's completely unacceptable for Acura to continue selling mismatched body parts like this. It's one thing for the bumpers to be off from the factory. But to continue selling OEM factory painted parts that don't match comes across as if they/Acura don't give a $h!t about their perceived quality etc.

Maybe someone who has purchased a body kit separately can answer this: Is their a disclaimer on it saying the paint will not match well etc.?

To me it's a complete slap in the face to Acura/Honda MC.... And they're the ones begging to be slapped...
-- And we wonder why many of the known 04 issues are still around in 05 models......

In the eyes of many, they're slowly ruining themselves...

is there a number to call Acura to complain about this KNOWN ISSUE? or should I just call the dealer? By the way who do I talk to in the dealer that can resolve my problem? the parts manager? the salesman?

I had a similar problem with my spoiler. I ordered it from e-bay, came in a diff. shade. I called them and they said that it is impossible to match it to the car. After talking to them, they agreed to repaint it if I send them a fuel door (so they have a "piece of the car" to match the spoiler to). Then it came back it was very close, still little different though. So, it seems to be a common problem with adding on painted parts.

Wow,
Thats worse than the WDP installs that I have seen... Its like a 3 tone factoring in the bumpers.
Not slamming your car, just Acura for allowing this complete buffoonery....
