BMW 540i

I raced a 540i bmw tonight. I was with my friend who weighs about 190, and the beemer had just the driver. Side by side all the way up untill about 130. Then I let off. The beemer was bone stock and sounded like the wind. Problem was he had about a 3 foot lead from the start and held it till the finish, so I can't say I won! I wanted to take him out so bad, but nothing was happening. He got a little jump on me and kept it. Whats in those things, a v6 or an 8?

Are you modded, and are you 6-spd? Did you race a 540i 6-spd or auto?

525, 530 are only 5 series that the TL is faster than. TL 6MT is just as fast as a 540i AT though(maybe small edge to 540i but not much). M5 is insanely fast at 500hp, 383tq.

Yeah I have a 6 speed, and i think his sh!t was automatic- i didn't see him shifting. I have all the mods except for the headers or forced induction. ( aem intake, outlaw engineering spacers, sun automotive ground wires and 'voltage system', comptech ss exhaust & rear swaybar, ur crank pulley, and I even bought the tornado!) I thought I was about to smoke the little kid, but he just put his foot down and handled me. The next thing you'll probably say is I can't drive, but I've been driving stick cars my whole life. I used to have a 1st gen eclipse gst that was pure rice- bright orange shift light, tanabe exhaust, bov, air/fuel & boost gauges on the a-pillar, but it was f#cking fast. And I could launch that fwd car like no one else. Anyway flame one, right! I didn't fall back or lose any ground on my shifts.

I'm not doubting your skillz. These cars are mean motherfukers, my bro has one, but his is a 6-spd. The thing is fast as hell, he walks all over me on the highway. So I can see a stock auto 540i running door to door with a decently modded 6-spd TL.

the auto's are running in the low-mid 14's, with the six speed in the13.6-13.9 range. But 0-60, or even 1/4 mile numbers don't really tell the whole story with this car. Over 100 is where it really shines, especially the 6-spd. I heard from 100-150 a well driven 540i 6-spd can run neck and neck with a C5 LS-1 vette.

Yeah, but IMO the price difference is justifiable. Don't get me wrong the TL is probably the best bang for the buck out there, but the 540i is in a totally different league.

Prices are about the same. The newest BMW 540 would be 2003. You can get certified low mileage 2003 540 i/6 for $32-35K. 2006 TL is about the same. Add A-spec and it becomes more expensive than 540. 2006 BMW 550 is a different story tough. Around $60K at least. But here we are talking 360 bp/360 tq and 5.0 sec 0-60 even with an auto tranny.

Nope! Ridiculous what the modding addiction does. That was part of my 'better airflow from intake' combo buy w/ throttle body spacer, intake and tornado. Whatever, maybe it works, maybe not- but I bought that sh!t.

No offense to your driving skills, but you should beat an auto 540 in a lightly modded 6-speed TL.

If the 540 is a 6-speed, then its a different story. One of my good friends had a beautiful black 540 6-speed w/Dinan ECU, headers, intake, exhaust and that thing was a MONSTER! Amazing pull passed 120 mph+ (I have personal accounts of 170 mph )

Friend's 540i manual trans with !air filter went 13.9@100, I'd say that our cars with some boltons should hang. It was like a 2000 or something.
