BMW 330 Sport/RSX

Pwned...

Started off in 3rd around 65 took it to about 80; just wasn't worth the gas...
I actually let off the gas because I thought he wasn't going...turns out he had the pedal to the metal! har har har another win for us!

As for the RSX, my buddy's car had some sort of conversion to a 2.4 L? he mentioned something about a CRV? CVR? those old little things...whatever it's called. ALso had headers and exhaust...blah blah blah he tore me apart lol

The 2.4L could be the K24 motor, but i believe the old CRV motor is the B20.

Yes, the CR-V has either the B20B or the B20Z depending on year. New CR-V's also have the K24 (IIRC), like the TSX. Bet bet would be that he has a K24 bottom end with his K20 head. Best combo right there, and no one who has a car that came with a K is going to swap for a B, haha!

Hard to say since most people do it along with other mods. I'd guesstimate it at around 230HP crank for motor only, add exhaust, etc. and maybe 240-250 crank? It also depends on which version K20 head you use, and in which car. Since it's in an RSX already, I'm going to go and say he used the RSX's head to get those numbers. Subtract 10 to 15 if he used the Civic SI's K20 head.

~Cheers~

P.S. Alright, reiterating here: CR-V K24 bottom with an RSX Type-S' K20A2 head would get the higher numbers up there. CR-V bottom with a base RSX or Civic SI's K20A3 head would get 10-15 less. Pointless to use the A3 head because it uses what we used to call VTEC-e, and it's only on the intake cam.

^can we do something similar? J35 bottom + J32 head, or has it been done already (like you did?)

I'm not running a J series. I had a C32 and I went to a C35. I was planning to do a C35 bottom end with C32A5 heads, but because of the block/head height differences, the intake manifold needs to be widened by 1/8 of an inch or so (1/16 on either side IIRC). Pain in the ass and I've already thrown away the C32A6, haha. What I would've done, though is use the C32A5 heads because of the +1mm valves with a modified C32A5 intake manifold (there's one sitting in my friend's garage), but I needed the car up and running ASAP so I didn't go that route. Remember, we all have two heads, both J- and C-series because we're V6s. The C32A5 manifold/heads, aka the Type II, is factory ported and polished, the heads had enlarged valves and the result is good for about 25 HP on a C32. Gains on a C35 I'm not too sure, because the person I know who has this combo in another car didn't dyno a before/after, but it should be in that area. My current manifold has mini velocity stacks on each runner, and I'm happy with that.

I'm not too familiar with the J-series' flow characteristics, but I'm going to venture a guess that the J35 is good enough, unless somehow the CL- and TL-S heads can be made to work. I'd expect at least a 15-20 crank HP improvement not to mention the added torque from the J35.

~Cheers~

That's interesting. You must have spent quite a bit of money on the car! What about the fuel economy? How does it compare with the J series? Have you thought about swapping in a J series engine?

Not really, haha. Even though I'm the first and still the only one to do this in this chassis, the entire swap took me 6 days and about $1300 including motor and spilled fluids. I did everything myself in my garage so I saved about $2300 in labour from a shop. Unlike someone who pioneered this swap in a different chassis, I did not have to spend $20,000+.

A J-series won't fit anyways, since my motor is mounted like a RWD. Space is also a huge issue because of that, as even the factory exhaust manifolds are of the log type,.

My mileage is quite good actually, getting me about 26MPG while tooling around the city, 20 if I'm mashing around a bit. 16 on night cruises, haha! To keep up/still go faster than some traffic, I don't have to break 2000 RPM.

~Cheers~

P.S. I still pass smog with flying colours (actually better than the original motor) without a hookup, still have OBDIIa functionality (converted the motor from OBDIIb) with EGR and everything in place.

It's always nice to have your own shop haha! Ah that's right, C series is longitudinal mounted eh...it would be nice if you lived close to my area...

I don't have a shop!! I did it in my garage at home, hehe. iforyou, I used to live in Canada, French Canada, though.

There's no Canada like French Canada
it's the best Canada in the land.
The other Canada is a fake Canada
stay awhile and you'll understand!

HAHAHA, South Park, FTW.

Colt45 on here wanted to fly me out to Cincinnati to do a 6 speed conversion on his 1G, but I've not got the time, . Besides, I want mine to be the first again, .

~Cheers~

P.S. iforyou, my major in college was Mech Eng, too. Too bad I dropped out of uni three times now. Dropped out of college in 2000/2001 to go to Taiwan, got kicked out of the Buddhist college in Taiwan, came back, dropped out of college in 2003, went back this past semester and dropped out halfway. I'll never get my degrees, .

haha who needs a mech eng degree when you are a mechanic or when you have the skills to be one! You know...I have to become a mech engineer because I don't have the skills to be a mechanic lol!

I'd love to do a 6-speed conversion too but I think it's better for me to save money for my dream car!! 6-spd conversion ain't cheap....and the fact that I can't do it myself doesn't help haha

It's even harder for me since I don't have space on the firewall for the clutch pedal. I have to run the Tilton pedal assembly to have a cable engage the clutch. You guys can just cut a hole like the stock one and stick it through, haha.

^ What do you mean? Exterior? Then yes, but engine is a USDM one. No point for me to get the JDM one except for the engine cover which doesn't fit too well because now that the block height is higher, it rubs against the hood liner.

^ Not much, actually. Just have to know when to buy and when not, haha. Also need to know what works with what else. People have accused me of spending too much money on my car, but honestly, I've spent less than some people pay for wheels! But if you mean invested alot of time and effort, then yes. I love my car!

Did you by any chance post any vids/pics of your car? I saw your run with 2 G35's and that was awesome, all you really need are better tires and MT!

No, those were taken here, some at Pebble Beach, some elsewhere. The car's from Japan, the plates are from Japan, but I'm not, haha. I had friends from Chiba University over so I got the Chiba plate to make them feel a bit more at home. I'm starting to forget Japanese...!! I can still understand it but I'm having trouble remembering words and I draw a blank when speaking... Reading Japanese is still almost the same, but certain Kanji (basic ones, too) I can't read that easily anymore. And the weird thing is, my Chinese reading has improved whereas I haven't spoken much Chinese in awhile.

interesting...I am sure your Japanese is still better than mine haha

That's weird...usually if you can read Chinese, understanding Japanese isn't that hard!

Chinese and Japanese use different Chinese characters for the same things sometimes. I can understand almost everything in normal Japanese (not scientific and not all business), and when it comes to reading, I still can read more Japanese than Chinese. I need a refresher course, haha.
