Bluetooth phones suck anyways
Getting ready to switch services to utilize blue tooth hfl, but it's not even worth it. The phones all suck. I want a professional looking phone. I would take the V600 or V710 which either don't exist or cost and arm and a leg. Not even worth the effort. Great feature, too big of a pain in the ass though. Stupid kids phones. NO MORE CAMERAS!

Let me elaborate, I am under 22 years old, bought a TL free and clear and make 6 figures. Who the F#*& are you.
jrudd - don't be so hard on the guy. Maybe his way of putting things was a little off-color, but he DOES have a point.
I have Sprint service and can't really switch b/c it's the only service that has no dead spots in the buildings where I work. (I had Cingular and Verizon in the past; Verizon was better around town but no good at work, which is mostly where I use my phone; Cingular sucked universally.)
I have a GREAT phone that does all the things I want and need it to do - speakerphone, long battery life, non-flip, web access, clear sound, etc.
Now that my TL has arrived (pickup tomorrow) I sure would like a bluetooth phone for it. But Sprint only offers one, and you can't check it out in their stores, you can only get it online. I don't even know if I'll like it or how well Sprint will support it down the line.
Plus who needs to spend $$$ on a phone when they have a perfectly good one?
Plus I've read SO MANY complaints and problems on this forum about the phones getting hung up, screwing up, causing problems in the car, etc.
Plus, when you think about it, although hands-free is surely safer than hands-on, study after study is revealing that IT IS FUNDAMENTALLY UNSAFE to drive while using a cell phone, even hands-free. One's mind is simply not sufficiently engaged to the task of keeping one's car in motion while avoiding other objects (cars, trees, pedestrians, deer, and so forth).
So the more I think about it, while I intend to use as many of my TL's gadgets to their fullest extent as possible, I'm sort of feeling the same way as the original poster about the whole bluetooth phone thing. I don't need it. The heck with it. I probably won't pursue it until/unless Sprint has several good models to select from, and provided I can promise myself not to use it while driving, which might be too tempting to avoid!
Now for others the TL's bluetooth capability may be a great thing. I just hope you can understand where the sentiment is coming from for those of us who might not think so.

Congrats on the new car
Sprint is actually the worst over here
My phone is the old vader. Real small flip phone, no color, no option, nothing! I love it, just use it as a phone. Battery lasts forever.
Seems like all these new phones are geared towards trends and kids these days no leaving room for the professional types (prob don't buy phoens that often). I also like teh V60 and my Start Tac was pretty good too.
Too bad there is no blue tooth add on that has hfl, that would be the optimal solution

I disagree. I've only tried one model of BT phone with this car, but while not perfect, my phone (SE T608) pretty much contradicts nearly everything you said. I'm not sure what "professional looking" means, but it's candy bar style, small and pocketable, no camera, excellent reception with no external antenna, it's dropped maybe two calls since the day I activated it, syncs up wirelessly with my PC, works flawlessly with HFL, $99 after $100 rebate, hardly an arm and a leg, and for an extra $5/month, I get free roaming, so I can drive just about anywhere and always be within reach. The only nit picky gripe I have with it is I can't read the display with sunglasses. I wouldn't call it a crappy phone at all, nor would I be so quick as to slam every other BT phone out there without at least giving them an objective look.
CLGator, I use Sprint. You can't get it online, only get it through Telesales. I think it's worth it. If you don't like it, you can always send it back for a full refund. What do you have to lose?

UminChu - thanks for the info. Your phone is, I believe, the only one I can get as a Sprint user, but it's also available on some other networks. Are you on Sprint? Do you know if that rebate is still available? For $99 I might be willing to give it a try. Also, do you know if they make a leather case for that phone that has a separating belt clip? (That's VERY IMPORTANT for me.)
Thanks!
Thanks!
Always been partial ro flip phones for some reason
can't accidently dial anyone and no need to lock keys
$ wasn't so much the problem if it is a phone I like, as much as they are not available yet. They do have a lot of features I would find useless though and that prob eat that battery such as dual color display. We shall see

Nextel doesn't even have Bluetooth, so I can't even get a crappy phone from them... And when they do, if ever, get Bluetooth, the phone will probably cost freakin $250...
Moreace- what do you do??? Man.. I'm doing something wrong.

Hmmm.... bluetooth phone with a camera. Just out of curiosity I wonder if you could voice command the camera shutter while driving?
Not that I want these gadgets on a phone but I am curious if it could be done.

V500
I have a V500 on T-Mobile and it works great! The V600 should be for sale here in the states in April/May of this year for AT&T, and hopefully for T-Mobile in July/Aug...
If you really can't wait, just go on ebay or to http://www.myworldphone.com and buy a V500 for about $350. If you have a GSM provider, it's a small price to pay for a good Bluetooth phone.

I agree. The bluetooth phones with service that I can use have the camera. Which in my line of work, I would have to leave it in the car all the time or at a desk. Just for the pure fact it has a camera on it.
I wish nextel would come out with something soon someone with major city coverage that is business professional and of good quality.

I just got my SE T608 two days ago, and as phones go, I love it! It has more features and better reception than my last two Samsung Sprint phones. My TL doesn't arrive until end of month, so I can't comment on the hands-free features yet. But so far I would definitely recommend the T608.

Call me cheap (I'm not, but you can call me it anyway
) but somehow the extra $100 is a barrier for me, especially since I love the phone I have now.
Am I wrong to assume that if I order the new phone, once it's activated my old phone won't be active? I've been told by Sprint representatives that you can't have two phones active on the same network for the same number at the same time.
I might just do as Novice suggested - wait and see. I'm leasing the car for three years. If Sprint doesn't offer a wider variety of bluetooth phones during that time frame, well, then it wasn't meant to be.
(On the other hand, if anyone knows of a rebate for the T608 that's still good, please let me know!

Umin makes another good point...
If more peeps got the TL & a BT phone, my middle finger would get less of a workout!!!
If you ever see an ANTH TL cruising around, motioning for peeps to hang up their phone and drive, then gimme a wave!

GLGator:
Too bad you don't have AT&T (their customer service sucks by the way). After I got my TL, I purchased a Siemens S56 for $80 from ebay for the first time in my life and used the SIM card from my old phone (Mot T721). It works extremely well. Well, I kinda miss using Mot T721. When Mot V600 comes down below $150, may be I will get one I guess. I tried to find out if I can use the Siemens one in the car and Mot T721 outside the car. Apparently it is not possible....

I hear what y'all are saying about the safety thing, but see, right now I don't use my phone AT ALL while I'm driving. (OK, that's a slight fib. Once a month or so I do make a quick call, but I feel guilty about it.)
So in a stupid way, I might actually be LESS SAFE by getting this phone, because then I wil definitely be tempted to make calls while driving!
I know, it sounds idiotic, but it makes convoluted sense!

If you are looking for a BT phone with no frills (no color/camera), Look at the SonyEricsson T39 or the Nokia 6310i.
Receiption on both phones are awesome. I have friends that go to BU with T-Mobile and have no problems with reception. Even though your comment was a bit brash, I understand your point.

wtf is a professional looking phone? I agree that cameras on phone are stupid and pointless. why not make that extra feature a speaker phone so these dumb asses who cannot drive without talking at least would be looking at the road while talking? being a sprint user I am stuck waiting until may so that I can get a rebate on my sanyo 4900 towards the bluetooth. ideally the hitachi g1000 would be bluetooth since it would cost me only 349 and has all the features I want except for the stupid camera. I cant believe I just said only and 349 regarding phone price.

Sorry, I just noticed that you weren't new. I just assumed since you were coming in sayin "Hey, I'm 21 making over $100,000 a year! Who the F*ck are you?" that you were just a cocky rookie, but you're obviously just a cock to some people since you are so much better than the rest of us.
