Bluetooth Key Fobs?
Bluetooth Key Fobs?
Does anyone know if the TL remotes use Bluetooth technology too? I was just looking at Motorola's web site and they are saying that bluetooth will be used to set seats, mirrors, temperatures, radio stations, etc. Maybe Acura is ahead of the game in this area as well.
Given all the publicity on Bluetooth security hacks, I would hope they wouldn't use it for keys. Moto's references are all non-security applications (non safety critical, too).
Drive-by-wire/Steer-by-wire use other protocols designed for fault tolerance (TTP/FlexRay/some variants of CAN). Chipcon makes on-board wireless components for non-critical applications.
Problem with long-distance fobs for keys is they need power. The battery dies, you can't open the car. You would still need a mechanical backup of some sort.
