Blue LED light for the interior domes and doors

I've seen ads for and interior posts about replacing the interior dome and door lights with Blue LEDs, to complement the blue dash lighting.

I realize this is totally a matter of taste/personal preference, but for those that have done it, what's the final effect. My inclinication is to think tacky rather than cool.

I wanna keep my TL looking elegant and high-tech and not like some scary pimped-out hot rod.

Thoughts?

It does look cool and high-tech IMO. Others have their opinion, but I like it quite a bit. It does compliment the interior especially with ebony.

Yeah, I bet it does. But, I am not so sure about parchment and camel. That just doesn't seem right to me.

I had similar thoughts, but put blue LEDs in the doors, and bright white in the domes, and I think it looks great. In fact, I've had people old and young compliment me on the looks. A great mod for around $30.

I have the blue lights for the doors and domes and it looks sweet!!!
Locking and Unlocking the car looks sharp.

I can read with the blue lights, but I prefer to use the map lights for reading.

Looks good with the parchment leather

Seems most people get them from http://www.superbrightleds.com and that's where I got mine. I did blue on the doors and white LEDs in the domes. Will post some pictures tomorrow if I get the chance.

There are a lot of threads on the subject. Do a search on "blue leds". There is one long thread that has what to buy and how to install them (or white) in the dome lights, door lights and I believe the light over the license plate.

Actually, here is the thread. Haven't looked lately, but I think there are links pictures of TLs that have the mod in that thread.

http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showt...light=blue+led

Oh and I agree. Ebony and Quartz look great. I have not seen pics of parchment or camel with the blue LED mod. Not sure how that would look.

I just did this mod and I love it. I put them in the doors and dome.

I got the ultimate approval when I was putting my 17 month old in the car and he looked up at the light and said ooollll (Thats cool for people that don’t speak baby).

It's OK!

I have 6 bulb Blue LEDs on the doors and 4 bulb white LEDs in all four domes. Installation is easy IF YOU FOLLOW the tips on the other threads.

I have Camel interior, black exterior. The blue in the doors is way cool.

The whites are not as bright as stock and have a bluish, techno tint like MATRIX. You can still read by them. They do come is 6bulb which would be brighter if you want that. The rear domes are brighter as they point straight down. The LEDs are very directional. The front ones are sideways and not as bright. But that's OK because you have the visor lights if you need more light.

It's a cheap mod. If you don't like it, change it back. It's not permanent.

Be careful - DON'T ORDER FROM superbrightleds.com!

I have used their bright white LEDs (WLED-6W), and have had three of them fail within the first few months. Apparantly, their bulb design is marginal - some regulator / diode / surge suppressor flakes out where half the LEDs start to flicker (the actual LEDs in the bulb package seem to be fine, some other part is failing).

Good Luck!

BTW, the blue lamps look great in my Parchment interior!

I got mines from ebay and they work great. The guy I got them from offers a warranty on them. I have the 6 bulb blue LEDs in my doors and rear dome light and the white LEDs in the front dome light. IMO, I think the blue ones look cooler with the black interior.

They're the same. They come on when you open the doors (unless you shut them off with the switch) or you can push them on for reading lights.

There are also the vanity mirror lights in the front which can substitute for additional reading lights.

What I meant by the map lights are the lights when using your vanity mirrors on the driver and front passenger seat.

These bulbs I did not replace.

By the way, I did try to take a pic of the blue lights but the shutter speed on my camera was too short a period of time. Using the camera flash doesn't work.

Agreed, wrong colors for that treatment, I'd like to see it on the Ebony and Quartz though.

No, it is a simple, pull, replace. just like replacing a bulb at home. you can turn the power off, but if you replace it and the light was on, you don't hurt anything.

Did you purchase the bulbs from "tec_toyz"? I was just about to order the exact same combination you have. White in the front dome and blue everwhere else. How does it look? I hope the white doesn't clash too much with the blue.

On a side note, nice to see a fellow Hawaii TL owner on these boards. Must be nice to own one of the only TLs on Maui.

So all...sorry for asking what seems like an obvious question, but I'm in CA and my cars in PA right now...

If I wanted to do this I would need:
* 4 bulbs for the doors
* 4 bulbs for the front/rear maps
Right...wrong?

Are they all the same bulb type #194??

Yup, I got them from tec_toyz. Kewl guy to work with. Actually, I originally had it with that combination but I later replaced the white in the front dome to blue because IMO, the blue in the front seemed to make it look cooler...kinda matched with everything else in the car. I got a lot more comments just changing that white bulb.

It feels pretty nice to be one of the few on Maui to own a TL right now...that's one of the reasons I chose the TL.

So in your opinion it's better to go all blue? I have heard people say that the white contrasts with the blue really well. Although, I was thinking that all blue would look better. I was originally gonna go for the whites just so I could see clearly at night. Hmmm... now I can't make up my mind.

Living in Maui must be nice. You have to drive up Haleakala and take some pics like this...

The view up there is unbelievable.
