Blew away an Audi A4 3.2

I was on my way back to the office after lunch, I needed to get in the far right lane from the left lane because I had to make a right turn up ahead. I accellerated to try to get in front of the A4 but the A4 didn't want me to get in front of him so he tried to match revs then I floored my 05' TL 3.2 auto and the VTEC kicked and I blew past him, he couldn't keep up. Then suddenly Los Angeles' finest pulled in front of us about 200 yards in front so we both slammed on our brakes but I did pull in front of the A4 and went past him anyway. My office is in Century City in Los Angeles and there was a huge CHP and LAPD presence because the Israeli Primeminister Ehud Olmert was staying at the Century Plaza Hotel. At least I didn't get pulled over and I beat the A4.

By the way I did it with my AC on and I'm assuming the A4 didn't have his AC on because he was driving with his window rolled down. Not impressed with Audi and German engineering.

Yeah S4 has an 8 cylinder engine and the TL has a V6, S4 is about 50k and the TL is about 35k, you can't compare apples to oranges.

I'm just referring to your comment that you were not too impressed by German engineering. The S4 will impress you for sure.

I came from a 3.2 A4.
In a Straight line, TL's pull wins definitely.
But in curbs w/ tight corners, I am not so sure.. Quattro isnt just gimmic

It's not even a fair race anyways. You acclerated before him as he was only trying to pace with you. Try to flip the situation around. Let's say you are pacing with the A4 and suddenly he floors it and take off........by the time u reacted it would have taken a while before you could catch up to him considering the power difference between the two cars are pretty close.

you might have mistaken that TL is actually made in North America at least 65% of its parts are.
the TSX could be considered as an import

So you based your opinion on Audi's engineering b/c you out-accelerate him? So the Mustangs in your view should be better engineered than our Acura's?

Being an ex-A4 owner I can compile a pretty long list of items that Audi are better engineered than Acura. Please don't be ignorant and slam other cars b/c you are capable of cutting in front of them.

AC doesn't make that much of a difference. I've heard people say it's actually better because of the drag the open windows causes.

Coming from the turbo world i would not touch a neon with a 10 foot pole. Dodge and better engineering should not be in the same sentence.

That is funny! Well, the Guy in the A-4 was not gonna let you in, no matter what! The TL is very intimidating to other driver's, I have noticed.

Just yesterday, I was driving my TL and had to merge into heavy traffic, and I had to get all the way over into the left turn lane. I have to say that I was greatly impressed with the TLs power! Man, that car just went and did not hesitate. I was like, Whoa!

People can say whatever they want about Acura's engineering, but I am convinced that Acura designed an AWESOME engine (VTEC) - and this baby listens to you!

I love my TL

Sounds like neither of you know what you're talking about.

On what terms are you basing a comparison of Audi, Acura, Aston Martin, and Ferrari? Are you comparing hand-assembled cars versus machine-assembled cars? Are you comparing cars that cost as much as my house vs. a $35k TL? Are you saying that an SLK is better than a Honda S2000? Really?

Yes, an Aston is better than a Civic. Dollar-for-dollar, though, it'd be tough to take a DB9 over an Si. Acura could hang with a C Class and maybe an E Class. With the RDX and MDX, they blow away Mercedes unless you get into AMG territory.

At the mean price raIn 1990, Audi didn't have a comparable model in the Aston or Ferrari price range. The NSX was the closest thing Acura had, and it was a formidable competitor to almost the entire Ferrari lineup in 1990. In 2010, it'd be a fair comparison again, given a new NSX will be out and assuming the Audi R8 will still be around.

Most popular surveying companies list Japanese brands above Domestic and Euro brands in overall quality, but they're generally comparing the meat of the market, not where Aston Martin or Ferrari are aiming.

The "nicest" car the Japanese have is the Lexus, and I'd put that higher than Mercedes build quality and at least on par with Aston, if not higher as well.

There's no realistic Ferrari competitor from Japan today.

Obviously you know nothing about A4's becasue they can be pretty formidible. You need to hit the track and give them a run.

They should give your stock TL-S a good run for it's money.

You should stop with the lame ass remarks. This is the racing and competition section and whether he beat a civic or a lambo, it doesn't matter. He can post what he wants.

The A4 3.2 is respectable but not overly quick and there is not much that can be done to make it much quicker (aside from FI or nitrous).

The A4 2.0T is not overly quick as well but can become so with some mods. A $60 ECU upgrade (stage 1 from APR) alone bumps the power to 241hp/292lb-ft and can make the 2.0T quite formidable against a 3G TL.

If you do that upgrade to a FWD A4 2.0T, I wonder how well it will handle such torque.

I would imagine it to have the same TS issues facing other high torque FWD sedans (i.e.: Altima, Maxima, Camry V6, etc,...) But with quattro, it must be a nice hookup (pun?).

For the FWD version I think it's better if you put in some torque limiting system in it for the first 2 or 3 gears lol. But yea, with quattro, it will be quite fast.
