Blacking out rear "A" and Type-S emblem.. DIY
Ive recently de-badged my rear emblems, leaving the A and relocating the type-s emblem. With everything being blacked out on my car Ive decided to do the same to the A and type-s badge. Decided to share it acurazine.
I used plastidip on all my emblems, to me its the best solution for blacking out emblems, considering its reversible and easy to apply.
Clean thoroughly around the "A", if you have degreaser use some on the emblem before you plastidip it.
After the cleaning process tape around it like this.

After taping everything off, spray on some plastidip, giving it about 5 layers with 20 min in between.
Results...

After it all dried off, carefully take off the tape around it and practically just peel off the excess plastidip around the emblem leaving the paint just on the emblem.
Completely take off the TYPE-S emblem...

Take a hairdrier, heat up the emblem for couple minutes, take a sharp thin knife and carefully pry up the red plastic pieces that are inside the emblem.. you will end up with something like this.

Remove the sticky double tape residue off the both pieces. Make sure not to scratch up the back of the red painted pieces while you taking off the sticky stuff.. Plastidip the chrome part, again about 5 layers..

While its drying, apply double side tape to the red pieces.. glues back the red pieces back onto the main emblem and you got yourself this finish..

here are the final results.

i wanna get a idea of how it looks from about 5-10 feet away without the sun or flash glaring off the trunk lol

thank you all!!
I was debating on doing this for long time, but since its reversible and I went and did it and it turned out better than I expected. If you gonna black out the "S" be careful with the 2 red pieces, they are fragile! pry them up slowly and make sure to use a lot of heat from hair dryer.
Next... slightly tinted taillights...

They sell plastidip at any hardware or home store.. home depot, ACE hardware, lowes, and so on, you will find it anywhere where they sell paint. As for double tape I used the 3M brand, just get any double tape from auto store..

The work you did looks very good however the back of the car just looks kind of weird now especially with the random placement of the type S badge. The trunk lid looks plain near the taillights. If it were mine I personally would have left all the badges stock but blacked them out. I have never been a fan of debadging the TL though as it just takes away something from the back end. Regardless of my opinion, looks like you did a nice clean job!!

i actually like the chrome look of the Type-S when contrasted with the NBP color...
since you plastidipped the S, from the rear it's kinda hard to see what it says for the average person that doesn't know what a Type-S is. all i'm sayin is that your car is black, and the S is black, so it kinda blends in with the car. maybe that's the look you were going for.
but i think this looks alot better

Did the plastidip around the "A" logo peel off okay? I'm worried about any scratching of the trunk around the logo.. That and I'm wondering how easily it peeled off without peeling the plastidip from the logo.. seems like it would all want to come off together.

Around the A it came of fairly easy, but the inside of the A is where you gotta take your time and peel it off... just dont rush.
could you elaborate on your steps in blacking out the A symbol? How long did you let it dry? What tools did you use to get it off? I have tried twice now and both times part of the A comes off with the plastidip im trying to peel off. i think ive given up...

Paint it in dry and warm conditions.
I waited about 15 min between each coat, or until the glossy effect of paint becomes dull and flat finish.
when peeling it off go slow and take your time.
to peal off the plastidip inside the emblem, make a small incision in the middle of the plastidip inside the emblem and than just peal it off..i used think razor blade just to cut the plastidip but not to damage the clear coat under.
You can also take off the emblem which is pretty easy too..
take off the liner of the trunk lid, heat up the emblem with hair dryer, push out the emblem from inside the trunk lid out with a flat head screwdriver. Paint the emblem and push it back through the 2 holes on the trunk lid, and your done.
