I plan on doing this too on my ASM. If it's done right to the naked eye you cant even tell its not paint.

Just like the black around our doors/windows aren't painted from the factory. I guess that's not right either huh?

I'm enjoying everyones examples whether painted or not. Ig gives people the opportunity to see it done either way. From pix I couldnt tell if it were painted or not.

Do you understand why they are doing black roofs now? Cars with dual panel sunroofs, It looks better that having 2 dark areas on the roof. Making the whole roof one color scheme makes for a monochromatic look verxes seeing 2 pieces of glass in the middle of say a red or white roof. In my opinion it updates the look of the 3rd gen to newer vehicles that MB/BMW are bringing out.

I think the black roof on the WDP is sweet. I'd do it, but in high gloss vinyl.

Sorry, I didn't know putting a sheet of black vinyl over the roof was considered neglecting my engine, you know, since I ALWAYS choose aesthetics over keeping my car properly maintained engine wise

Looks so good and I love your headlight combo. I'll be doing Nonkya 2800k Yellow halogen fogs in mine soon. Fogs should be yellow if you want them to be functional lights.

Can't wait to do my roof. Damn yours look so f'g good. Awesome work.

Awesome work TL Luver, did you do it all by yourself? And did you remove the XM antenna or did you cut around it?

What did you use to cut the vinyl btw?

I'm planning on doing this once the weather gets warmer out.

where can i get this vinyl and how would i get the antenna black also? i also wanted that rear window spoiler. should i get a black one if i do the vinyl? i do have 35 tints on so i think black would look better than the white.

for people that already have the vinyl on.. did you have troubles with air bubbles or did they come out easily? and how did you put it on?

i got mine from ebay for like $50 shipped just type in black vinyl roof but AckTL05 here on azine quoted me $47 shipped i was just too much in a rush...as for antenna might need to be painted because i dont think it really possible t o vinyl a sphere im just gonna leave mine wdp no one seems to mind... and for bubbles hrs. with a heat gun sqeegee and spray bottle full of soapy water... even when you finnally got it formed to fit you still have to lift it spray more soap~water and repeat the process over not that difficult just a little time comsuming... the only part i needed help with was peeling the paper off the back and even then when me and a friend were doing that the wind blew and the whole vinyl was stuck together all from the sticky part like folding a sticker in half but wit the soapy water and some patients i unstuck it from it self and still turned out fine no visible creases or lines... one tip i would recommened is DONT get any water on the back of the paper because when you peel it; where the drops of water are on the paper the paper stays on the vinyl...

Hope this helps...

I love the look of mine. Wrapping the xm/navi antenna is a pita, so I found a black one on www.car-part.com for $30. That way if I want to go back to white roof, I take the vinyl off and swap the white antenna back on.
