Black - how bad is it really?
Black - how bad is it really?
Black looks bad**s! Wife loves it, too. I know I will have to wash it all of the time. However, I am worried about the paint looking faded after two years, etc. If you keep fresh wax on the car, will it look good for a long time, or am I asking for the world?
Having just come from a black car, I have only one word for you....
ZAINO.
It kept my black 2002 TL beautiful until the day I traded it. It helps to protect the paint from UV. When carefully applied, swirls are prevented. When washed with Zaino carwash solution, it retained its shine. I cannot say enough about the stuff and I plan on putting it on the 2004 as soon as I get a spare weekend before it starts snowing around here.

Yes, paint these days doesn't fade. Especially not as sopon as 2 years. It would take a lot longer than that to fade it out enough to notice. Keep it waxed. The 2 biggest problems with black is (of course, heard a jillion times before) it get's dirty fast. And it'll show swirl marks from car washes (if you use them) earlier, seemingly deeper, and more consentrated densities than any other color.
Keep it waxed, and use a soft wash mit, or other "professional" style wash method. And that baby will shnie on!

yea keep it clean and wax it every so often. Also get it buffed once in a while to get all the impurities off of the car. good luck.. my shines all the time and people always asked me how my car is so clean.
I've got a black '97 Maxima. I think it still looks wicked when clean. No car goes from "blah" when dirty to "WOW" when clean like a black car does. I've waxed my Maxima a grand total of 2 times in the almost 7 years I've owned it. It still looks awesome when clean. The only problem is that when it gets dirty, it's easy to see the dirt. Also things such as scratches and whatnot show up easier.
I freaked out today when CarMax said they'd give me almost $5000 for my car. It's got 128,000 miles on it. :wow: The KBB value of the thing was about 4300. I dunno...
Now I just got a voicemail from my old stomping-grounds of Houston saying they got ahold of a black/ebony TL with NAVI. I just put a deposit on it and if everything goes well, will pick it up this Saturday. This after I had just gotten home from another dealership that said the car I was going to get was sold before I could get a deposit on it.
Oh well... hope to join the club this Saturday guys.

Black is fine if you dont mind it taking a loooong time for the a/c to cool off and if you dont mind a car that shows every scratch and imperfection and which looks clean for all of 5 minutes( after you wash it).It looks great when its new and clean but is extremely time consuming to keep that way.
I'm torn between black and silver.
Black... sharp as hell, impossible to keep clean, and a lot of waxing and maintenance. Also, for some strange reason, black makes the car look much more stout and sporty.
Silver... looks as good on a TL as it does on a 5-series! Probably never have to wash it
, and it's going to have that classic stylish appearance... like it doesn't even have to try that hard to be sweet. However, it makes the car look more sedan-y and less sport-y.
Hmmmm.....

Without looking at the obvious, how old do you think my car is?

My car is gonna be 5 years old this coming december. To this day it still looks like new. Yea it's a pain in the a$$ to keep a black car clean but it is worth every sweat and tears.
Plus, silver is just way too common.
So my choice is.......black!

I can tell you that my TLS is the first black car I've ever had and it will definately be my last. This color is just too much maintenance. It does show every little imperfection. I think my next car will be silver.
Nothing looks better than a black car when its clean and nothing worse when its dirty. After continually having to clean my black car for years I became fed up as it just to much work and looks horrible with any dirt on it. If you get tinted windows be forewarned you will be asked "how's the geno car" and "how's the pimp-mobile".
