"Stolen wheels could cost 5 grand to replace". Did they get their source from the dealership? It wouldn't be a bad idea to start etching VIN #s on the wheels just for these cases were you can identify the wheels if they were stolen.

^ ever heard of a flip socket?

sorry if I know all the tricks but yea the only way to keep your wheels on is a shock sensor when lifted, if the alarm goes on when they raise the car they won't be extremely happy

and aside from that, i dont sleep at night

but a few years ago, professional thieves tried to steal my 2002 Explorer Sport (i had invested big $$ into that car too) after my silent alarm on the car was set off, i turned the car on via remote start and ran outside with a 2x4 and a camera... i was getting their pictures, or a piece of their skull

they got away, minimal damage to my car (they cut the wire for the OEM alarm & horn) but didnt know about the aftermarket one.....

after that, i slept in my car for 4 days straight with that camera, and that juicy 2x4... just waiting..... watching
LOL who does that...haha

ok heres me

the only reason theres a "rash" of these types of thefts??

people working at dealerships, taking the key, and stealing the wheels... point blank... or some smart kid, who realized it was the same key, and is just jacking them

how are acura wheel locks,..well "locks" when EVERYBODY has the same key?? they should just call it... acura lugs

in my opinion, a good oddly shaped original key lock is a safer path... i also have the viper 5900SST, with the shock sensor, and lift sensor, and 1mile sst... at least ill KNOW they're stealing my wheels lol....

The locks aren't the same on Acura locks.. the design/groove is different..

And if thieves rly want your wheels, whats to stop them from just breaking your lugs/hammering on another set to steal them like stillhere said. Its a sad world we live in..

yeah I never realized why acura gives out the same lock to everyone... kind of makes sense because they can't give a unique lock to all customers, that would cost money and be a pain.

But it never really makes sense that all TL owners have the same "wheel locks"

Allon, saw your car at la fitness and tried looking for you inside but failed miserably lol

They make loctite threadlockers that require > 275 pound feet of torque to break loose. You ain't gonna do that with a simple tire iron. At least not easily. If all 5 bolts were done like this on all 4 wheels, it will take a long while to do by hand.

This particular threadlocker is prob overkill, since it was made for permanently bonding bolts. There is another one that will break loose at something like 190 foot pounds if combined with heat. That should be good enough as well.

Unless you are implying they are carrying air-impact wrenches and air compressors with them (or electric impact wrenches) when they jack wheels? That will create so much noise, the whole neighborhood will see what's going on. (Especially if done at night)

Alright boys its time to sleep in our cars with shotguns loaded... waiting for them thieves.

But yeah, some years back my aunt had her EL's rims+tires stolen from a secure UNDERGROUND CARPARK at an apartment building... I thought that was just an isolated case... I never would have expected that thieves are doing this elsewhere

Yeah bro those people work for EMT and are up all hours of the night. And the dude next to them works in construction so he is usually out and about at around 3am smoking a cigarette getting ready for work I suppose. So I guess I fare a better chance. LoL.

Thieves are smart, they know in the winter it is less likely for people to be outdoors.

True, plus in winter we all have our windows shut. And, less chance of hearing anything. This guy with the Type S, said all he heard was a car door slam. And, didn't pay no mind to it.

Wow...since October, that part of LI has seen 111 such thefts!!!

That really blows.

I guess people should also be on the lookout in the BM for wheels being sold out of LI by newcomers.

Question regarding wheel locks for you pros...

Would Muteki lug nuts (splined) only be opened with the key that came with the set? If you have this set, then the possible thieves would have to hammer in a socket to all 20 nuts to remove without the key as opposed to doing this to only 4 nuts if you have wheel locks and regular lug nuts?

Thanks

Yep, my cop friend told me that.. they are actually making a new task force there to target these thieves, lol..

But if you are in New York, this new remake of Gone In 60 Seconds is coming to theaters near you. Watch out.

And thus I'm riding curbed nasty stock TL-S rims..take 'em

If I had my rims stolen I would call them $4000 rims too...

I never really completely understood the whole wheel lock concept since every design I see is pretty much the same. The ones Acura gave me are actually the same ones from a different company, Acura just repackages them.
