Better than a Benz

okay so I bought a 2006 Mercedes c230, and as soon as I drove it off the lot I had probs, tranny, engine pinging, abs not working, Sooo I said screw mb lol, and I got a 2006 tl, and its way better, it has everything the benz had plus more, and overall its a better car, and wayyy cheaper to work on, I love my tl!!!!

Congrats on the purchase. The car should not whine like a supercharger so obviously something is wrong. The TL should more it less be dead silent. Even the exhaust is very quiet.

if its a whine, it might be transmission, which would indicate an issue.... :/

Welcome and congrats! I'm glad the TL is treating you better than your Mercedes. I just wish Acura had something as ballsy as the AMG lineup.

Sounds to me like your basing your opinion on a company based on that one car. Also sounds like the TL also has a problem.

apples and oranges. That's like basing your opinion on Acura solely on a used Integra. Glad you like your TL, but let's not be unrealistic.

Quiet is an understatement.

If the whine isn't that loud you're fine, a ton of Honda transmissions do that, it does sound like a roots blower a little.

If I had unlimited cash I'm sure an AMG Benz would be fun but I'm not touching anything German with a 10 foot pole.

Ummm....yes. Their entry level "econo-car" is $30k. Their halo car approaches $100k. They aren't built to be owned by people with shallow pockets.

I am basing my opinion off of owning a c230 sport, Mb is very sleek and nice, but if you don't have a spare 20gs for repairs good luck, the speed sensor went bad in the tranny and I was looking at over 6gs just for that, it requires removal of the tranny, also fuel reg, and injectors went bad, and with a mb u cant just walk up to autozone and pick up parts, its hard to even get plugs for an mb, it just wasn't for me, im happier with my TL

German car is nice only if you can afford buy them new and retain the original warranty, once that warranty is expire you better off trade in for another new BMW,MB, Audi etc...

^Agreed, BMW, Audi, MB, they are fantastic cars out of the gate without question, but I wouldn't want to own one past 100k, parts get mighty expensive when they break, Jap cars take the cake as far as long term reliability goes IMO.

My cousin's girlfriend owns a 2005 MB c230 Sport/Kompressor model. She has about 94k miles on it and she tells me all the time (no joke) i have this problem and that problem just came up. Its a piece of crap.

When we took my TL, she liked the color, style and the amount of miles I have on mine were way more and I havnt had any issues at all with mine. Oh and I have a very very faint whine sound when accelerating but i has to be a normal characteristic of Honda's tranny's.

My 91 integra did it, cousins 05 Honda accord, Buddy's 05 Civic, younger cousin's 03 Pilot. and My aunt's 06 TL. If this sound is related to tranny failure I have yet to see or hear from my family on it.

My c230 only had 41k, and it was junk, The tl actually seems to have better acceleration than the c230, it just doesn't handle as well

^ Exactly! (lol)

Man, the AMG lineup is teh sex. But yeah, us poor working class just can't pony up the dough. Well, I could probably pony up for the car. But not the repairs. That would get old fast.

Hands down we all know, Honda and Toyota take the cake on reliability.

German cars look great, but are highly unreliable, even under warranty be prepared to visit the dealer on a regular basis for warranty work. After the warranty, be ready to shell out thousands and then the resale value drops to dirt, because no one touches a german car without warranty with a 10 foot pole.

The other day I was getting an inspection done and I was talking to this other guy there with a benz. He bought a 2002 S500 with 109k miles for $9k!! It still looked pimp, but wow $9k, talk about a depreciating asset, considering it sold for $70-$90k back then and now its worth $9k.

A 2002 Accord that sold for $20k back then, is worth $5k now with 109k miles. That's a $15k loss, versus a $60k loss on the benz.

Top Gear did a segment on buying a used BMW and MB for 8000 pounds instead of the cheapest new car in Britain. Jeremy had a not that old MB for the price of a new Nissan Versa with everything in it, so when they asked people how much they thought the car was worth everybody said way more. The point they were trying to make was why buy a new econobox when you can get used luxury for less, the only thing they missed was repairs. If I was familiar with working on German cars a used S class would be awesome, but again not touching it with a 10 foot pole.

^^Agreed, that S class was black/black and I would have guessed it was like a 2006/2007 and worth at least $30-40k. When he said $9k I was shocked.

I'm always tempted to get an old M5. The E39 M5s are really cheap with 100k miles, I know the maintenance would be a PITA, but that is a one hell of a car.

I hear ya on the German car mechanic part, if you can fix it yourself, your set, but the parts are still expensive.

On the next episode he mentioned that he did have a problem with it. One coilpack went. He brought it in to get it fixed, $3400 US.

I actually do remember that now, just been a while since I watched those episodes. That's where the econobox that you just put gas in comes ahead...

Ha! I remember that too! Hilarious... TL would be $72 and a basic allen wrench or socket set, depending on 04-06 or 07-08. As much as I love the German cars for their beauty and luxury, I am not willing to give up how freaking easy it is to repair a Honda, Toyota, or Nissan usually with just basic tools and we've had one of each in the family.

Better than a Benz? Depends on what's important in a car to you. The TL wins many categories, but certainly not all of them.

Haha yeah. I just don't see the point in ever buying an entry level Benz, BMW, or Audi, especially used. You really don't get much for your money at all, both in car and wow factor.

I had to drive a brand new C300 for 4 days. By day two I was asking for my TL back.

The Benz is a nice car, very nice. MB knows how to build luxury, more so than Acura IMO.
But I would never drive one, it's just not my style. It doesn't feel like, me.

Just saying to me, Merc is geared to a different audience and it wouldn't be fair to judge them side by side.

When I looking for car and shop around for TL-S, IS350, 335i, G35 sedan but when I stumble upon the 335i there are several items that shock me.

1. plastic water pump (really BMW?)

2. Oil stick is gone (how the hell you can tell how clean is the oil if a problem occur?)

3. Found on Youtube couple video that dam navi tell you "bling" your engine is malfunction "no shit" = limp mode.

4. 7 quarts of motor oil = 15k miles oil change.

this just one of the many make me steer clear of used BMW.

I will definitely not compare the IS250 or the 328i to the TL....

TL is more towards the IS350/335i/G37/Audi A4 3.2/MB C350

Acura is trying to make it so, that the ILX will be entry level, the TSX will be compared to the above listed models and the TLX will move up to compare with the 535i/M35/A6/E350....

with that said, I think Acura has NAILED DOWN the interior....none of the cars listed above compare to the TL's interior....in the TL everything is in the right place, if you will....

as you move up in the BMW or Audi line, now those interiors are wayyy better but I am pretty sure, Acura will work on this with their 'high' end cars....

As for the driving and performance....TL is not even at par with the others....having driven the Mercedes, Audi, BMW33i and IS350 they drive amazingly well....they handle great as well....

On final notes, Maintenance/Cost of Ownership/Resale value, TL will BLOW the competition away....speaking from personal experience, my TL is 8 years old (2005 model) and has 172K miles on it....THE ONLY THING which I has FAILED on me is the rear brake caliper and couple interior bulbs (HVAC section)....other than that, I have been very very very happy with the car....My uncle had a 328ci and mentioned about his maintenance issues....He now has an Audi A6 with S line package which has been better but still puts a hole in the pocket every couple months....
