Best way to clean oily/carbon buildup spark plug?

I think I have oily or buildup carbon the spark plugs. I want to remove them and clean. What is the best way to clean them? The plugs only have 26k miles on them and were installed about a year ago.

Are you talking about a buildup on the electrodes or on the external insulator and metal mount?

Why do you think you have buildup? Have you fixed what ever may have caused buildup?

I agree with Jackass, unless and until you fix whatever is causing the buildup on the electrodes, fussing with the plugs is a waste of time.

Yeah, that's first priority.

It's perfectly normal to have a thin film of buildup. Like this:

But if it's black or sooty, then you're probably running rich or burning a lot of oil. If they look like the plugs above, just leave them alone. At most, soak them in a bit of gasoline then use a nylon brush (not steel) to clean them.

My 2011 MDX is consuming or burning about 400 mL per 1,000 miles. Here is the problem I have:

1. When the engine is COLD ( like in the morning) it doesn’t make the knocking/metallic grinding during light/hard acceleration.
2. When the engine is WARM (light stop and restart the car 30 min to 3 hours later) it makes the knocking/metallic grinding during light/hard acceleration.
3. When the engine is HOT (normal operating temp) it doesn’t make the knocking/metallic grinding during light/hard acceleration.
4. What really puzzle me is that the knocking only occurs when the engine is started up from WARM and went away after 5 minutes or so after the engine reaches it normal operating temp.
