Best Possible Way To Get Through This
i was just wondering how will it work and what am i gonna lose out.. i am losing interests in my TL and i want to either trade it in for another car or sell it... i am financing the car and still owe about 31-32k on it... i want to get a car where i dont have to worry about anymore payments... i made the mistake when i decided to take on a responsibility that i want to bail out of.. i can afford the payment thats not the problem its just im only 19 and ive been thinking im too young to even have to drive a luxury car and worry about payments... what is the best possible way on doing this.. should i sell it or trade it in... my mom wants a new lexus rx 330 so i can trade it in for that or either sell it... but i know if i trade it in i will lose out on alot of money... how would either of these ways work out.. this is my first time trying to trade or sell a new vehicle... im planning on getting a 1006 300zx or something... thanks guys

But what I don't get is your last remark about planning on getting a (2006?) 300ZX. Wouldn't that just mean more monthly payments again? Unless you're saying you're going to pay cash for the Nissan, but then if you had that much cash, why not just pay off the TL with it? It's a little bit confusing.

You WILL lose money on the deal no matter how you cut it. You'll lose less money selling it privately... you'll lose no money getting your mom to simply take over your payments (If thats in any way possible, I'd try to do that.)
And you want to replace it with a 1006 300ZX? That's a WAY old car. lol...
Assuming you mean 2006 300ZX, you have to consider a few things...
1) The 300ZX is no longer in production. This means you either meant a 2006 350Z, or a 1996 300ZX
2) The 06 350Z Base model has an MSRP of around 30 grand.
3) If you go from a brand new car, to a nearly 10 year old car, you WILL regret it. I Gaurantee it.

Seriously, though. At this point it look like you owe as much or more than the car is worth. You don't have a lot of options in this case.
Try selling the car privately before going the trade-in route. You may get a bit more for it. Dealers will lowball you because they need to resell it at a profit..
Good luck.

It makes much more sense to keep the car and drive it till the wheels fall off.
You are going to loose a lot of money if you sell the car, depending on how much you put down, you may be upside down and have to pay someone to buy it.
The TL is likely a good car to keep a long time, it will hold up well mechanicly.
Cars are just money eating modes of transportation, and unless you have money to burn, you have to keep in mind you are just getting something to get you from point A to point B.
If I was 18, no way I would ever get a new TL, I would get an 8 year old TL maybe, as when you are 18, you tend to smash cars up, vomit in them, never clean them out, load them up with doobie smokeing friends who WILL spill their beer, go to parties where some drunk will walk on your hood or roof, and you
will also want to (need to?) spend money on giant wheels with a thin coating of rubber on them so you can bend the wheels up on pot holes easy.
You may also feel the overwhelming need to rip up the inside and install a sound system that triggers earthquake warnings for hundreds of miles...
Best to do all that in a nice but almost worthless car, rather than a new $34,000.00 luxury car.
Take the balance of the money and go on trips, host wild parties, and put
some aside for a downpayment on a house.
I bought motorcycles...
Way back when I was 18, I had and old dodge that we liked to use as a dune buggy some times, and I was glad that i could abuse that car for 5 years and then sell if for what I paid for it, massive dents and all....

If you give that to her to trade, you DEFINITELY won't get more than you owe. you'll end up having to pay out of pocket for the rest, or she'll have to dump it onto the price of her car.
So you had an 04 TSX, I'm assuming you bought new, had it for 1 or 2 years and traded it in for a new TL? How many months have you had the TL for?

You should let her drive it. trick her into driving it. Get a good looking friend to whistle at her as you guys pass. Point out how much fuel costs and find out the mpg of that rx 330, then calculate each tank of gas, and her estimated fuel cost for a year based off her commute.

I know this from experience, and not just my own.

I like your sense of humour Brett... perhaps it is because I am of similar age... I also did the motorcycle thing, but am too worried about being maimed by someone on a cell phone, who is not paying attention, so I only ride dirt bikes.

And just out of curiosity how old are you? When I was 21, I bought a new car and it was the most stupid thing that I have ever done. Yes I could handle the payments, and pay for my own apartment, but it left damn little for anything else (fun). And, after a year I was bored with the car and wanted someting else... so I lost a bunch more money and traded for another new car. It took a while for me to wise up that my mission in life was not to increase the profits of banks and car companies.

Wow, an '05 and your tired of it already. Either way you will lose your shirt. It's not going to be a pretty sight, but selling it will decrease your loss. It's really not a good time of the year to sell your car either (in NY that is). Take your time, you don't want to get screwed over totally. This time lease, short term. Good luck.
Your stuck. If your mom trades it in I would be suprised if they gave you over $26K for it. At $31-32K, you'd be lucky to sell it for that. But I don't know the mileage, or condition either. If it was me I would suck it up a little longer, till I can walk away with atleast $1K
