Benen Tow Hook

Im posting to see if anyone has put a Benen tow hook on their 04-08 TLs.. Im inquiring not so much for the actual tow-hook purpose as for safety reasons, as in, if people were to hit our cars, they'd be hitting the tow hook instead of the bumper.

My buddy here up at school with me put red benen tow hooks on his 07 Civic Si and I'd have to say they actually look nice.

But I'd rather have one so they protect others from bumping into my car.

I tried search but it still fails?

I think I would get a silver one since I have a black and silver theme going on.

I'm not quite sure if I want one on the front, because it's parallel with the ground (as in, it's horizontal, not vertical) and it might not stick out far enough, past the furthest point of the front bumper.

Any input? Please try to avoid saying that they're ugly because I'm just using it for the reason that people won't damage my car.

Not to sound like a dick but what cars will this prevent from hitting your bumper? Slammed cars? And what total % is that?

You're pretty good at it but it's fine, that pic isn't a TL so im not sure exactly how far the tow hook will stick out, hence the purpose of this thread.

Unless a Ferrari hits you, it's not going to help. Plus I don't know how much of an impact it can absorb.

are you guys serious... wouldn't protect rear bumper this and that, can't tow with it...

I would look up pics of people using the stock towing location (result scratched bumper in lower section)... or should i look for videos of these tow hook EXTENSIONS... since that is what they are

I have the DATUM1 tow hook, which was like $45 at a local shop... datum1 comes sold individually, bennen's come "individually numbered" <- bs since I've seen the same numbers repeated all over... jhpusa.com is the offical seller of benen

datum1 on ebay - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datum...spagenameZWD1V
chrome look non-branded - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...2BSI%26otn%3D4

datum1 on my car
focus on how far it sticks out, front license plate height, even if you are slammed

PS. you have to go to your nearest hardware store and get longer studs, these are made for thinner stock tow hooks, the tl has an extremely fat tow hook

I like the idea of protecting my bumper...

For WDP TL-S, would you get black or chrome hook????

it is a border line rice, but I would rock it just to prevent bumper damage. I've already repainted my bumper once, and let me tell you something WDP 3-stage paint is not cheap.

They sell these mats that you attach inside your trunk and hang it down over the rear bumper to prevent scratches from someone hitting you. Obviously it won't protect against dents, but it will help against simple scrapes and scratches.

The tow hook thing really isn't my thing but I will say it looks good on some cars. If you are doing this for bumper protection Brian think about welding a knife blade on the end of it too. You won't see anyone bumping you when you parallel park anymore, lol.

I was at my friend's house at Queens. As I was talking inside his house, I was in full view of my car out in the street through the window. I watched as some dick was trying to parallel park behind my car with his TrailBlazer. He was reversing and BUMPING the camry behind him intentionally and comes up forward and lightly taps my car! I ran out screamin "Helll NO BITCH!!" I ran up pissed and he was scared. I looked at my bumper and there was no damage so I kept my cool, but maintained a nasty intimidating stare. He kept bumping into that Camry with no care at all. He gets out and apologizes and I said "You don't care about people's cars? Huh? Why are you being so careless? This car is mint and I keep it that way. You're lucky there is no damage. Watch yourself." He's like "So sorry man, it was accidental. I'll be careful." But what would have happened had I not been watching? That explains half the other scratches and dings on my car.

Welcome to NY man, people don't care at all! I'm tellin you put a blade on that hook!

I still think if you put this thing on your car it's not going to protect your bumper as you anticipate. Look at Al's car. If the dumbass that tapped Rocky's car bumps you with its high bumper, your still going to get damage.

Here you go Brian, I doubt it will protect our bumber but it will definatley protect our ATLP exhaust from surprise dips and curbs, in this pic the hook is actually pushed too much up but i fixed it already and as "stillhere153" mention before you do need to go purchase longer studs from your local hardware store

It looks like a key. Makes the car look like a giant wind-up toy. You all gonna get the curb feelers too? They'd go great with that!

I don't even think I can use one of these, I have to back up into my condo's parking spot and there are concrete lot blocks that I alreay have to worry about hitting the greddy's on. This stocks out much further and is prime time in the location of where the lot block is.

I personally wouldn't get this, but I DO believe it's a great deterrent against accidental bumps. It would work best for mall parking lots where the guy next to you is pulling out and sees that thing sticking out of your rear bumper. When he cuts the wheel to pull off, there's NO WAY he's gonna chance coming anywhere near that thing. I know this is possible since I, myself steer clear of tow hooks.

I think this is what Brian is trying to say.

That's actually what I'm wondering. Has anybody tried to put one of these on in the front?
