Greetings:

I paid $750 from a 3M dealer in Concord for their "paint protective film". It covers the front of the car about half way up the hood and side panels, front of the side mirrors, door edges, bottom of gas door and top of the rear bumper going into the truck.

Good guy that appears to stand behind his work....

Hey all,

Check out http://www.detailingdynamics.com/film.html -- I believe Detailing Dynamics also sells the 3M film that has the clearcoat on it so you can wax, buff it out, etc, like you would with your normal clear coat.

These guys are top-notch professionals. Had my car detailed by Mike Lee this weekend and it turned out great. (If you guys saw my post from the Wash and Wax forum the dealer's car washers scratched my car pretty badly)

I talked to them this week and two of the partners from the New York location are coming to the Bay Area to do some film for their customers, so the timing might work out. If you guys are interested maybe you should contact them for a group buy. I believe Detailing Dynamics will custom fit areas of the car that you want, so if you only want the hood, you can do that too. Best to email Mike if you have any questions.

edit: Here's a link of them applying the film to a Porsche Carrera GT :

There's another guy who does clearbra in the bay area and several folks from this forum have gotten their cars done. His name is Jeremy and he can be contacted invisiguard@sbcglobal.net. He uses Xpel. Worth a shot! I think he discounts his prices for A-CL members.

Hey,

Just a follow-up for you folks (since I will probably need to get this film soon too with all the rock chips from the dump trucks here in the Bay Area!).

Just talked to Mike briefly over at Detailing Dynamics - there will be a first tier discount for 5 purchases and more of discount for 10+ purchases. I'll get the pricing for you guys soon.

gochan - do you want to continue coordinating this? I'll get you as much information as I can, or you can just talk to Mike directly.

gochan,

They have two locations - New York (main location) and Northern California (satellite operation). Mike Lee used to be out in NY too but now he's got their online business in NorCal, but he does the actual detailing as well. The guys in NY are coming out to do other things I guess but they're also going to be applying 3M film to people's cars. Mike told me that they're going to take names down of people who want to get 3M film applied - kind of an interest list. As soon as he gets me the rates I'll post them here. Personally I think the 3M film is a good choice just because of the clear coat on it, which allows you to treat it just like you would paint.

And yeah, you have to pay for Bay Street parking now... so SIGN THE PETITION, please!

What's really annoying is that my hood looks pretty ugly due to some previous rock chips, so I almost want to get it repainted entirely first before the 3M film... but man, that's $650 there and probably another $650 here. Yikes!

I guess they're not convenient enough for me on the weekends that they're held. If you guys hold any more that are closer to me let me know.

As soon as I hear from Mike re: prices I'll let you guys know.

Lore, is there a difference between the 3M film used by Detail Dynamics and X-Pel by invisigard? And how much of the hood will it cover? I think Invisigard goes 24". Just trying to get details...... Thanks .... Not in the Bay Area, but definetly interested in the group buy.

Great question. Let me find out and I'll post more information.

edit: okay, did some research. Xpel is an 8 mm 3M film. The film used by Detailing Dynamics is also the 3M film. I have a feeling they're the same thing, but with Detailing Dynamics you can choose if you want a 14 mm or an 8.5 mm one.

Please Read!!!!!!!

heads up people, i've been warned by the mods to be careful not to turn this into a "group buy" because they will have to shut down the thread per acurazine rules. please be careful with the wording in this thread for i do not want this to be closed down and it will benefit no one. i started this thread so we can get power in numbers and have a better bargaining tool with whichever vendor we end up going with. Thanks for reading and I think we should get a more concrete head count. i'll start...

people who are down

1. gochan
2. db252

maybe...

Okay, found out from Mike Lee that most people opt for the 24" film over the hood since the 48" one is too expensive to buy and apply.

If you have any more detailed questions about the material, actual application process, or prices, etc, go ahead and email Mike Lee (Detailing Dynamics) at mike.lee@detailingdynamics.com.

.... I really do not understand the whole idea behind this.

Why don't you 2-5 bay area guys/gals get together on a Saturday and take a ride over to the business with cash in hand and do business with them?....

If you guys find a business who wishes to come onto the forums, pay the advertising fees and sell their product, then more power to you....

I contacted a company to pay the fees and come onto the site to sell to you guys and they never got back to me (after 3 e-mails)... I have one shoppe who wanted to do a GB in their area, but their is just not enough interest, so they decided not to become a vendor.

and for the record I do not mind if the members here post where they got a good deal, got the product, or whom to trust to do the work, BUT this will not turn into a Free Advertising thread... EX: repeatively pushing a companies product on these sites without the Company paying for the advertising.
