Battery relocation kit

Has anyone relocated their battery to the rear yet?

I want to decrease some weight from the nose of the car, and possibly experiment with a few intake options with the free space.

Any kit recommendations?

Are you autocrossing? Rather move the battery and add weight than keep it there? That should help a lot, change the weight distribution from 60/40 for 59.6/40.4...

Isn't that what the relocation is doing? Balancing out the weight distribution..

However, I have nothing to really offer. I am sure that aznbo187 is aware of my of antics in the TL Diet thread, and that he has seen the "baby batt".

I am aware of the racing battery, but there are a few reasons I opted not to go with it.

1. My battery died at the race track, so I had to go to the nearest autozone and now I have a brand new battery and don't feel like spending another $100 just to replace it with another new battery.

2. There are a lot of times where I sit in my car and listen to music. (between class, etc.)

3. I'm more concerned about weight ratio, than reduction at this point, but will replace the current one with a lightweight in the next replacement.

Well all you really have to do is extend the batter wire to the back of the trunk it'll be tough if you run the wire under the carpet, but I'm sure you could run it through the plastic panels near the door sills. I doubt there is a kit, but I would assume any kit would be universal as its pretty much just longer wires.

My point was that moving the battery isn't going to do anything for your car, well at least nothing that is noticeable. You are moving 20 pound from the front to the back and when you are talking taking 20 pound away from 2100 pounds it won’t make a difference. That is about a 0.9% difference, but proportionally it only makes about a 0.6% difference. For example if you weighed a 175 pounds and lost 0.6% pounds you would have lost about 1 pound, not noticeable So why are you doing this if you’re not autocrossing, even then I am not sure that it is worth it. Oh and you're adding weight to your car by running heavy wire from the front to the back.

But he wants to do some sort of intake mod in the space where the batt was.

I dunno dude everything helps... and like I said summit racing has the kit and also there are those on eBay.. what the kit consists of is the extended cable, ground, a bracket to mount the batter in the trunk and an alluminum box to keep everthing in your trunk away from the battery

I think I got 50/50 in my car.....I have so much weight from the subs LOL! I just added a kinetic power 200cap battery...its small but got some weight on it. Relocating the battery is a great idea but what if it dies ? how would u get to it? getting in the car n trying pull the latch on the inside of the trunk would probably be a bitch.

i did a battery relocation on my prelude long time ago.. i only did it to free up space for my turbo setup, and to have a cleaner looking engine bay.. but over i would rather want to keep my battery in the engine bay, because if you dont use a sealed battery you risk the battery venting vapors, and leaking acid. i never really felt a difference in weight distribution so that wasnt a huge benefit that i felt was worth while.

haha all i know is that it rendered my trunk pretty useless for storing food items like groceries, or take out after eating at a resturant. because i didnt want to contaminate food items with the vapors in the trunk or incase the battery decided to spill some acid.

i dont have actual pics of my battery in the trunk, but i used a black marine battery box that you can get from walmart, and ran 4ga wire from the trunk to the engine bay, and used 4ga wire from negative terminal to ground.

scratches his head, I am gonna leave this thread alone, everyone who posted after my thread ignored the $150 kit I posted which keeps your battery sealed inside of an alluminum case sheesh

ps. is that a monster energy drink can?

haha why yes it is, a friend stuck it in there for the picture.

that kit you posted is a good kit, only thing is its not a completely sealed box, it just a good looking box, the only box that is truly sealed is the blue moroso box. but as with all box's holes have to be drilled at the bottom that way they can be bolted to the car in some fashion with a battery tie down as well. then reseald with silicone or some form of sealant. but over all no box will be completely sealed..

even the blue moroso box has a vent which has to be vented to the outside to prevent fume build up.

Sorry, should have been more specific. I do occasionally track my car, and frequently run the canyons. So there are many instances where I feel the car has a bit too much weight in front of the front axle.

A stock sized battery weighs in at 50lbs, give or take a few. I know what your saying it's only a few percent of the actual weight being moved, but if I base it on the weight distribution of 60/40 (MT), the TL weighs in at 3560lbs, with 2136lbs in the front, and 1424lbs on the rear wheels. Moving the weight to the rear should bring the ratio from a 60/40, to a 58.5/41.5. Not much, but you have to take into consideration that a lot of understeer comes from having weight in front of the nose, past the front wheels. The stock battery is pretty far past the front axle, thus acting as a lever.

" The mass of a battery doesn't sound like much compared to the overall 4,000 pounds of vehicle mass, but when you think of that 60 pounds out on the end of a 15-foot lever, its location takes on more significance. " (automedia.com)

The battery kit will have a vent tube that pulls out all the gas to the outside of the car, so that way I don't die suffocate

I think getting a lighter battery would save more money, that kit I posted is $150, and similar less costly kits are $50-$75

PS. Gotcha Mykizism...
