Base TL into Type-S

How much would it take to turn a base model TL into a Type-S? Is it even worth doing it? I don't plan on doing this anytime soon if at all, but I've always been curious. Thx ahead of time. ACURA POWER!

I'm sure it is more $ and work than it is worth. You'd have to swap over the 3.5L engine (I don't know what all that entails, motor mounts etc), suspension stuff, etc. Why do this, when you could easily go out and buy a Type S? It isn't like its a rare car.

Sell your car and pick up a type S. Why would you go through all that work.

aside from engine components (which is already costly enough), in order to become a full type-S you would have to get tail lights, headlights, front and rear bumpers, side skirts, the darker chrome trims, convert red interior light, seats, different leather for door panels, red gauges for the speedometers, emblems, suspension, and wheels. The price you pay for labor and parts could probably net you to a car worth more than a Type-S.

imo just trade it in and get a Type-S so you can get all the warranties with it. Im not so sure if a BASE TL will have warranties if you convert the car to a type-S

Trade it in to get the Type-S.

No brainer.

I'd rather buy the turbo though. More HP!

Its not worth the headache and/or complications... If you have money to throw like that just sell the car add up all the money and buy something faster then a TL-S...

No other car in the price range of a Type-S can match it with its overall quality, performance, looks, and longevity. Not even a 30-50k car.

I would get the little logo on the trunk that says Type-S, and call it a day...

OT: Although I somewhat agree, I have to play the devil's advocate and say that there are other vehicles out there with similar quality, more performance, good looks (subjective) and similar longevity. My STi was all of the above and costs almost $10k less than a TL.

Hey KINGAAA00 I also wanted to do this but it actually costs a butt load of money I'm actually going through the process right now. If you're thinking of swapping the engines forget about it, you might as week buy a type s and trade yours in. to get the bumpers and have them painted, it's $250 a bumper not to mention shipping with would make it anywhere between an extra 50-150 dollars to ship and then paint which could be pretty pricey depending on where you go. then you have the center grill, center piece, lower grills, that would cost around 200, then the fog lights which are a pretty penny also. Headlights are like 700 depo not oem, and tail lights which are around 100-150 depo not oem. so you're looking at a couple grand to convert the exterior of your TL. But I didn't care I really wanted the type S look so currently I have an 08 type s bumper painted with HID fog lights ran me a total of 900 so far, I still need to get the rear bumper a set of quad exhausts all the grills and the head lights and tail lights. good luck my friend prepare to throw down some cash moneys!

if the OP is anything like me he would go for performance first, i think it is too much money to have a car that looks like a type s but doesn't perform like it. on the other hand it would be nice to have a base that performs like a type s at least thats my opinion.

sssoooo, is it possible to only change the engine internals? to match the 3.5 displacement does it HAVE to be a whole new engine block? i have begun to ponder about this myself. im wouldnt worry about the exterior of the car until i am done with the engine. if nobody here knows, then i guess IHC, opel, or inaccurate will have to answer this one.

My 22 year old Porsche does.

Instead of going through the headache of a Type-S conversion I would simply go through a series of engine and suspension mods that would probably exceed the performance of a stock S for less money.

For what it would cost I'd rather convert it to RWD. Imagine the possibilities...

Just to get the TYPE-S front your looking at around 1500 used to 3k new for grill, fogs, headlights, bumper/paint and hood trim.

If you want the whole looks it would cost around 10k because OEM stuff isn't cheap. It would be cheaper to just buy a TYPE-S, but somethings don't matter as they are changed out such as exhaust, suspension, rims and other things people change.

having owned both an STI and now a TL-S, there is no way a TL-S could keep up or compare power and handling wise to an STI...now looks on the other hand. The TL-s Takes the cake and with all its luxury goodies that the STI doesnt have..I still miss my STI from time to time but glad i got into something more luxury.

it wouldnt be worth it to convert it if you wanted to do everything ... interior/exterior/motors ... now if u just want the exterior it may not be too bad pricewise
