Badge removal question
I need help with removing my badges. How is this done and is it going to leave any holes in the trunk? I want to remove the "Acura" and "TL" lettering. And while I'm asking, how do you remove the side mirror lights?
I believe the only emblem that will leave holes is the "A" caliper emblem in the middle. The "ACURA" and TL just come off. You can use an adhesive remover/cleaner to get the remaining glue residue that is left over from the emblems when you remove them.
Yeah I figured that would be the only one to leave holes but how do you remove the others? Dental floss and a heat gun? I don't want to mess up the paint but I don't plan on putting the badges back.
Watch the heat gun .. you can blister the paint.
Use dental floss or fishing line to saw off the letters then the residual left over roll it off with your thumb/fingers. Then use a little Goo Gone or rubbing alcohol to get it off .. Then wax the area.

I want to remove them because I'm going to tint them black. I'm also going to be removing my front and rear fender lights and tint them as well. You know your avatar TL-S looks crazy sic!! That the actual color I wanted. The wheels you have are the stock ones but they look so big on your avatar....why is that? Are you using a different tire size than the 235/45/17?

Yeah I'm sure I'll have to clay bar it. It's got tons of junk around the letter as it is now. Like someone never washed the car really good. It's got like a fog all around the letters that even taking a q-tip to it didn't really get it out. After I get them off it will look cleaner.
I pour warm water over the letters, use Crest Glide floss <-- this is important, don't get the Safeway brand, it just snaps.
Anyway, after that, i just used some acetone, and slowly scrape using credit card. Be patient.
Then wash that area, clay bar, rewax, and you're good.

so random
^^ I have a type S. I wanted to black them out because the car is black. Otherwise it looks like it has these 2 grey bars on the side. Don't you think it would look cleaner blacked out?

Using any sort of scraper gives a good chance of marring the paint to the point where it will need to be polished out.
Well I'm going to have to clay block it for sure! The junk that's one it + the glue that's left is going to be nasty and will require a small amount of acetone to remove. After looking at the car I think all I want to remove is the "Acura" badge and leave the "TL".
What do you guys think about the eBay blacked out "Type S" badge? I seen it the other day and thought that was nifty. Does anyone have one?

I'll repeat .. Acetone isn't something you want used on your clear coat . Its not that clear friendly. You might not have an issue the day you use it but you might months down the road.
