Bad Smell When car turns off....
Does any one have any ideas why this is happening??? I have a 2004 TL with only about 4,500 miles on it and everytime i turn it off, i get a terrible smell comming from the exhaust, it smells like rotten eggs lol. I dont know what to do because i went to the dealer where i bought it at and he said to wait until i put some more miles on it, once i did that i went back and then he said it was "normal" and that it is because of the chemicals in the gas? Is anyone else experiancing this? and what should i do!!!! any help is appreciated!

That was my first thought but the dealer said it was the problem with the gas, i use 93 octane for the gas, since its the most expensive gas you would think it wouldnt do that lol, anyway thanks for the help

Did you run over any plastic bags in the street? The reason I say this is because I remember this happend to my Mom's car. The plastic caught the cat and burned on their good and it smelled awful. Check under your car and look at the whole exhaust and see if there is any plastic hanging off there. That could be the culprit of your odor. It eventually burns away.

Rotten egg smell comes from the catalytic converter and all cars will give off this smell at one time or another depending on conditions - youre basically smelling sulfates as a byproduct of the combustion/converter action. Cold engine stopped, placing pedal to the metal, fuel/air mixture, amount of sulfates in your gas - I believe all these things could contribute to the smell and I do think that new converters give smell off more often then older cars.
If you somehow found 93 octane it is overkill (unless you plan on having your Acura fly) - Im not sure what Acura recommends but 91 is most you need.
Have you considered switching gas stations? Try a different brand of gas for a while and see if problem goes away -
Lets hope someone with a more "scientific" explanation can tell you exactly what causes the sulfur smell given what Ive told you is basically on what Ive seen or experienced and is by far not close to being root causes.

I sort of like it. Just like sniffing your own farts in college. Something very barbaric about it. The TL needs some barbarism, being that its so classy. Unlike that archaic G35.

Rotten-egg-smell from vent/car, one of SVC managers ever mentioned to me that Engineering Dept. of Acura has put this under careful investigation... we just have to wait and see... Dozen of factors would result in this bad smell. They have to find out what's the main source and fix it.
