BAD DAY FOR ME & MY TL

I hit an SUV in front of me this morning at 405 freeway on my way to work. See pictures below. Good thing no damages on the SUV. Questions:

1) Should I call my insurance company to pay for my damages?
2) What should I do on my clear bra?
3) How much do you think is going to cost me?

Your input is greatly appreciated.

Ouch mannn. Sucks that happen. Damage wise seems like new bumper, hood, grill, paint. Lookin at probably close to 2 Gs in repair. Depending on deductible I would turn it into insurance

Depends on the deductible.I would think that you should go to the company if the deductible is around $500, anything more than that would not make economic sense as im sure your premiums would increase.

looks like its going to cost more than 2000 dollars, fix bent hood, fix bumper repaint both, maybe some fender damage? i think that clear bra is dead too.

Take a look behind the bumper too. its amazing how much those plastic bumpers can pop in, damage, pop out again, and hide a busted radiator or something.

...unless your hood took the main hit. i hate how all those huge vehicles have such high bumpers, you just nose right under them and take their bumpers in the face. what ever happened to a standardized bumper height?

well he is lowered so standard bumper height wouldn't mean anything, but yea either way you coming out of pocket... report it to insurance and it will come out of your pocket not now but later... pay now and you pay now....

u probably should get it checked out to see if there's any damage under the hood and bumper inside the engine bay.

if all of the damage is just cosmetic, buy a carbon fiber hood and i think there is a guy selling his front bumper in the black market forum.

The I-405 is the undisputed KING of LA Freeway traffic nightmares. In all the times I've been to LA, I've never seen traffic so backed up on any other highway like the the 405 making it relatively easy to hit someone from behind. I once missed a flight out of LAX as it took me almost 6 hours to drive there from Palm Springs on a Sunday afternoon, an hour and a half of which was spent on the 405 alone.

Thats what insurance is for.....yes....use em. The repair is likely to run around $2000 - $2500 before its over once they find out its an insurance job.

now it looks more like a hood bulge hiding a V12 or something haha

that sucks though. Is your grille damaged at all (except for the aluminum part on the hood)?

I had a similar accident in a Mazda 6 and the repair was $5k. No airbag deployment and the fenders weren't damaged. It did bust the radiator though.

Had a similar situation. Air bags did not pop. No liquid leaking. The total bill was around $5600-5700. It was a Volvo. Shop said parts were expensive. I didn't know it's THAT expensive. Anyways, insurance took care of it.

Yup I have to. When i report this to my insurance, will the other insurance carriers know about this incident? When my insurance go up, i'll try to switch carriers that has a better rate but i'm afraid this will show up.

The reason why they call it the 4"or"5 is because you're only going 4 or 5 mph It's one of the busiest and most congested freeway in the world. I'm glad no one was hurt and your car didn't sustain too much damage. I think that you should go get an estimate from a legit body shop and just run the numbers. Depending on your driving record and insurance company, you can probably expect a premium increase for the next year or so. How much you ask? I don't know. Some insurance companies such as Allstate have accident forgiveness. If you do go through insurance, no traffic infractions any time soon, ok?

that doesnt look like you hit someone, im pretty sure you came out to your car and thats how you found it. Someone must have hit you while you were in the grocery store. Nothing to do now but call the cops, get a report, and then report to insurance company and your rates shouldnt go up haha JK that sucks but atleast you are ok

+1

It's truly amazing the number of people who pay through the nose for car insurance for years on end, have one small mishap and are afraid to claim it. People, your insurance is not going to go through the roof for one minor accident, if it goes up at all.

Example: I had a little mishap with my Accord last Fall, to the tune of $2300 with a 500 deductible. I didn't consider NOT claiming it for one second. Accidents and tickets, at least in New York State only affect your insurance for three years + three months. I knew that even if my rates did rise, an $830 policy would not rise $600 per year, which is what it would have taken to make filing the claim a poor financial decision. I spoke with my agent and he told me the worst case scenario would be that I'd lose my 10% "safe driving discount". Well, I just got my annual renewal, and it's no more than when I switched it over to the TL this past January.

Moral of the story is: You pay for insurance, you might as well use it!

Well, the way I see it, you could get a CF hood for around 1k, get a bumper from the black market section for about 400 dollars which is already painted, and put them on yourself, there's a DIY for removing and installing the bumper here too, its a video.

Okay, i already got a quote from two body shops and they're somewhat the same, change everything (bumber, hood, grill, right headlight, new paint on both front fenders) about $3,800. Now they don't know yet if there are damages inside especially the radiator. They have to wait from the insurance adjuster so they can look at the car. I'm hoping everything is ok inside the hood. I didn't see any leaking below so hopefully i'm right on this.

Question, since they're replacing the front bumper, should i get the ronjon front bumber? Does it look okay with the ronjon front bumper with the aspec kit on the side and on the back?

Check the radiator ASAP and watch the temp gauge. I hit a huge pothole with my SRT-4 and didn't notice that I cracked the radiator. A week later my temp gauge spikes through the roof and my car decides to stop moving. In short I fried my engine because my temp gauge was reading the air temp instead of liquid temp. All because of a little crack in the radiator. As far as the ronjon bumper, most dealerships won't put aftermarket parts on your car, just the stock ones that are covered by insurance.

update on my TL:

http://www.valleymotorcenter.com/checkvehicle.htm

Estimate is about $6000, they have to replace the radiator with an after market, i don't know if this a good idea.

Vehicle id is 63755
