Back-Up Sensors...?

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know how much it would cost me to add the back up sensors to my 04 Canadian TL with Navi ?

I'm thinking of setting it up with my Navi and adding an aftermarket back up camera also. but first I'd like to know how much the back up sensors would set me back...

Thanks a bunch.

If you installed them yourself around 400. If you didnt get them with the car you may as well put a back up camera in instead, If you are a good shopper and good with wiring taht should only set you back 6-800, depending on the camera you use. In place of the switch on teh Vsokolov Box put a 12 volt relay and wire it into your tail light circuit. Since everything is already in your trunk you wont have to bring anything up to the front of the car. As far as cameras I recomend a Licence plate frame cam, looks cleanest. A decent one is 400 bucks.

The dealer we bought our TL from listed the backup sensors installed for $1200, but we got them to go down to $800. This is in US dollars.

Even for 800 I would go with the camera, if they were 3-400 i would jump on it, but 1200, even 800, I could have a backup cam installed at any customs shop(if I purchased the needed equipement, well hell I could do it myself).

Mine were about $1,000 cdn. I really don't know why people want a camera other than the wow factor. A camera doesn't tell you when you are getting close to anything, and the sensors do. I wouldn't waste my money on a camera after having the sensors for 1 1/2 years as they work flawlessly.

Agreed...I have the sensors and they work perfect, besides having the license plate camera just gives some teenage punk the idea of jacking your stuff.

Right, without any kind of distance guage on the backup cam, it is not that useful. The backup sensors tell you exactly how far you are from hitting something, if you just have the backup cam, you still have to do guesswork. We wanted the backup sensors because we have no driveway and usually parallel park our cars in front of our house. The street often gets crouded and is not that easy to find a lot of room to park.

Yeah, I looked into getting a back-up camera to connect to my PDA, but the TL really does not have an ideal place for it. The best spot is where the license plate lights are, where it's hidden from view, which means I would have to aim the camera down at an angle - not sure if it'll be very effective. Other than that spot, it would be way too visible for thieves to jack it. Too bad.
