B1 on the 23rd...

Dealership is charging me $148 for the B1 service. I have it scheduled for the 23rd. I get free oil changes, so that part has to be deducted, I guess.

What's the word on what you guys have paid, and should I go to an authorized service place to get this stuff done instead of the dealer? Is all of it necessary? One other thing, if I don't get it done there, and I try to sell my car later, will it not be classified as a certified pre-owned because I skipped the dealer on the B1?

how many miles on car? Just get a normal oil and oil filter change along with tire rotation. Also just mention that the handbrake seems to not engage and have them look at it. B1 service done for 50 dollars at most. Also if you are near time for the engine and ac filter change, you can buy the parts and save yourself alot of money.

B1 service includes:
Replace engine oil and oil filter

Inspect front and rear brakes

Check parking brake adjustment

Visually inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box, and boots

Visually inspect suspension components

Visually inspect driveshaft boots

Visually inspect brake hoses and line (including ABS)

Visually inspect all fluid levels and condition of fluids

Visually inspect exhaust system#

Visually inspect fuel lines and connections#

They most likely will not inspect anything and just to the oil change and on the rare ocassion play with the parking brake. They also might con you into getting new brake pads and rotors and some other junk.

I only have 8585 miles on the car right now. So most of that stuff sounds like more than what I need. Oh yeah, they did mention something about "lubing". I should just ask them to change my oil and filter and take a look at the parking brake?

Thanks for the advice!

BTW, forgot to add, parts breakdown/cost breakdown to save money:

Oil Change @ dealership: 30
Tire Rotation : 20
Total cost 50 dollars

Since the car is in warranty, they will check out the parking brake. You are not due for a new air filter nor pollen filter until 25K. Just get these three things done and save up money and put some money in the mods fund.

I really don't need to change that AC filter until around 20-25K right? And since my oil changes are free, and my tires got rotated on the A1, then I should just be getting a freebie on this one sounds like!

Mods fund it is!!!

so just now is free oil change and parking brake adjustment both of which are free to you. Just as personal recommendation, After you car the car back, I would condition and clean the leather/interior, put 303 aerospace protecant on the rubber seals around trunk and doors and on dashboard to reduce fading. By putting 303 on the seals, it prolongs their life and makes it less sticky, so the trunk will pop up higher.

Been out of the loop for awhile. What is 303 and where do I get it? Baby's going to need a lil TLC.

its a bottle of amazing stuff, it restores old rubber seals, conditons leather and vinyl, put a sunguard on the surfaces, and gets rid of the fading look of the dashboard.
Here is a link for it:

If you sell your car directly, it won't be "Certified Pre-Owned" anyhow; Well, maybe certified by Darksom Auto Mods ("That's a DAM nice ride.")

Point being, you don't go to Acura and ask them to certify it, then put an ad in AutoTrader.

Seems to me as long as you have good maint records/receipts it should not matter if the service was done at the dealer or at a reputable shop. If it DOES matter, then that sounds like a way for the stealerships to take your money.

Lol...I only work 15 miles from where I live is probably why my miles are so low. And when me and the gf hang out, it's usually in her Toyo RAV4 so she can drive as well. I got my car in November.

Yeah, they break pockets every chance they get! Would have got me too, well, minus the oil change part. My A1 was free, and this will be as well! So I'm glad I asked!

I had A1 Service with just over 6,000 miles for my first service. My oil life is down to 20% and I'm just over 12,000 miles. Obviously I'll need the routine oil change tire rotation. Can I expect to have B1 popup at 15% and have to schedule the same as dark. He only has 8585 which is why I'm wondering if I should expect a more detailed service appointment.

I really don't go by the service reminders really. I change the oil every 5000 and rotate the tires. Tires rotated for free at discount tire, oil changes at the dealer. Negotiated a lifetime $19.99 price for synthetic oil changes with purchase of my car. Transmission fluid every 25k along with cabin filter. At 50k, I'll take it in for a big inspection, but until then I don't think a car or this caliper needs all this babying.

I agree with what you are saying Ethan, but I was thinking that I had to do it to call my car pre-certified! LOL! I like what Lembowski is saying in this post. I do know how to change the oil and the ac filter. If the other stuff comes up later, then I will get it addressed. I have free oil changes, but I will be bringing them Pennzoil Platinum for the next oil change and subsequent ones.

But yeah Trance, it's bullshit because it's not hardcore stuff they are doing. I'll wait for that when the regular interval servicings are needed! They are going to do it then anyway, so no getting me on that one!

25K is when I will do the ac filter, and I can't wait to put the Sync mesh in at that time too! Sounds like an easy number to program myself by so I won't forget!

I do all the minor stuff myself, the dealer screws the car up every time it's in there... Plus they're so damn expensive! Why? You'd think they would cut prices a bit and get more people to come in, that seems to be a better/more profitable business model. Charging $150 for $50 worth of service is nuts, but I guess most acura noobs have more money than brains so the dealer gets away with it.

However, I just paid the dealer $300 for a new MXM4 POS tire cause I got a nail in the sidewall of one with 6K on it... I was stuck and TireRack wanted $253 for the same tire, next day delivery.... I only paid the dealer $279 for the tire and the rest was installation = about the same as farting around with TireRack???

I don't know what sucked worse tho, going to the dealer and buying a tire or the fact that them POS Michelins cost $250+/tire??? I've been wanting to swap them but wasn't going to do it at 6K! So I was kind of pinned into buying a single tire over a new set.

I've heard as much on here. But you know..."tastes great...less filling" type debate...I think the Penn Plat formula is supposed to be better tho, but the Mobil 1 is good too, dealership uses that...

Well get this, I have the wheel warranty. I got it when I bought the car simply because they assured me that it would cover aftermarket wheels.

So I called the company to verify. They do, up to the cost of a stock wheel.

The fuckin stock wheel is priced higher than my G-Games lol.....fine by me...

Yeah Ray, 25K sounds about right. Im at 16K right now and everything seems okay.

Still debating on when to do my cabin filter...
