Nice-the lower the MPH gives you better MPG's.

It's a balance but generally higher mph means lower mpg (higher mpg number).

Nothing but the finest in photography.

This could have easily continued as long as I didn't need to stop, but 40 MPH is a bit on the slow side.

Yes the TL is definitely a great highway cruiser! It's when your average speed per tank is below 25MPH in which you hear complaints about TL MPG and stuff. The fact of it is that almost any car's MPG will suck in those conditions and not only the TL.

My best MPG was when the MID speed registered 71MPH average for 300+ miles: 33 MPG by MID and 32.6 actual when I did the math. My MID always correlates to actual mileage so I have trusted it after my first year of ownership.

That was a blast up the I-5 with no applicable traffic. I was doing about 75 MPH to get an 71MPH MID reading. No unusual events or anything to delay my trip on that tank. I have only had a couple of tanks like this so it's great when the stars line up like they did on that trip.

There are so many factors on this stuff: heat, traffic conditions, tires, etc. An automatic TL tachs at such a low level that even going 70mph allows you to get a good MPG- as long as you're steady. The aerodynamics are also great and don't seem to cause such an adverse affect as you might expect too- my guess is 65 mph might be the cut-off on mileage for when it begins to actually drop on the highway.

The stats stayed the same for the next 94 miles too! I didn't get a picture though.

I've also noticed that 65 is the sweet spot area for best MPG on fwy on my TL. My MPG also crawls up when I cruise on open long roads at around 50mph

This weekend I got it up to.

30 MPG
Avg MPH: 45
Dist: 150
Time: 3.28

I was hitting upwards to 32MPG, but then I got off the freeway and had a 7mile stop and CRAWL through a reconstructed one lane dtwn street going and returning.
