Pretty sure someone will figure out what I used before I have a chance to get back and respond. Wanted to wait until I could do a DIY but just in case someone is on the same track as me, I wanted to solidify calling "FIRST"........HA!!!

My interest is peaked. My wife's '08 Mazda3 GT has them, but they aren't very efficient. However, I still think it's a cool gimick. NOW... It might be even cooler if someone can figure out how to turn the headlights on when these auto wipers fire up. I'm not sure if the application is any good for cars with HID headlamps (ballast wear-and-tear), but it can always be switched off during hit-and-miss rainy weather.

Interested....subscribed for DIY.
This would be perfect if it was tied into the KP Rollup module so it closed the windows, too!

It seems like the car is in the on position (but not running) and you timed the water splashes just right, to coincide with the wipers.

interesting mod, did you just add the sensor from a bmw/mazda and trigger one of the wiper wipers?

CAUTION: LENGTHY AS HECK

The kit is by RainTracker. Stumbled across this 5 years ago and never heard any pros or cons about it so I figured I’d guinea myself. I got the RT-50A kit because the RT-40A kit wipes slow ONLY. 50A actually applies the wiper speed needed to clear the windshield. In an April shower, it’ll wipe slow but when the shower turns into a storm front, the wipers kick up to fast. Once the rain passes, the wipers will stop consistently wiping but as you saw in my video, the system will give you one or two courtesy wipes for clean up. I can only guess this is what cars that come from the factory with this feature do as well. Of course, what some folks consider light rain and heavy rain varies. Luckily, the sensor which is mounted directly under the rearview mirror can be adjusted to the sensitivity level of your choice.

Plus, for those times when the rain is really light or ya pick up some roadspray and deem the wipers unnecessary, there is an ON / OFF switch which allows you to work the wipers manually. In fact, you can leave the switch ON and if you feel the wipers are moving wiping too little or too much, you still have manual control. It’s a “piggyback” kit meaning it ties into the existing wiper system but takes absolutely no functionality away from it. Guess the best scenario of needing it OFF would be when your washer fluid is low and you're splattering alotta bugs on the highway waiting to get to a service station to clean up but you get hit by roadspray which sets off the wipers and smears the glass.

The main harness controls the functions above, but there is a second harness only available with the 50A that has two 2 wires that will make it completely worthwhile for a lot of you. Actually, it has a third wire but I’ll come back to that. The two wires specifically for the 1st edition (04 – 06) TL rollers: Light Sensing Headlamp Control. Just like the 2nd editions, headlights power on in ambient lighting conditions. Red Voodoo mentioned the feature of having the headlights coming on when the when the wipers do but the pitfall of having the HID system shutting on and off with start again/stop again rain. Luckily, if you find yourself in weather like this, it has an ON / OFF as well. When not in conditions like this, just leave it ON and enjoy.

Screw the third wire which is for CAM feedback. When the sensor no longer senses water, some digital wiper systems have a tendency to stop the wipers in the middle of the windshield instead of finishing the cycle and returning to the home position which this wire resolves. Haven’t a clue if our system is digital. I do know we have a CAM wire but I didn’t use it. Mine always return home and I have an ’08. The instructions only read ’04 –’07 but the wiper system isn’t a highly sophisticated piece of equipment and probably hasn’t gone through any revisions over the span of the 3Gs lifetime so I doubt you’ll need it either.

Unfortunately (if you can call it unfortunate) we’ve had nothing but rain-free weather and will continue to all this week so I can’t give a true account of how it perceptive it is but I’m hyped just to see it respond to me splashing the water. Gonna try to get another video today with the water hose to show the light-slow / heavy-fast transition. Hope to get around to the DIY soon but more than willing to answer any questions in the meantime. Be forewarned that my DIY won’t contain any info on the Headlamp feature since I didn’t use it. Hopefully someone who needs it will buy the kit and write it up.

I’m sure there’s a way to do so. Should only be a matter of grabbing the current that activates the slow/fast relays in the 50A and running it to the Rollup module wire that sends the power to the window motor after you hit lock twice. Throw a “timer” relay into the mix to run for enough time to close all the windows / moonroof and then shut off to prevent the 50A from constantly sending power to the window motor. That's what makes sense to me. Am I willing to try it? No time soon. I’ll wait for someone else’s DIY…HA

Yeah, the car is running and as the video showed, the wipers never wiped until the water hit the sensor. It may look as though I’m matching the wipers but it’s just a coincidence in the rhythm that I’m tossing the water. Trust me, the wipers are responding to me.
