Autocheck or carfax?

So I"m about to purchase a vehicle in a couple of days. It's a private seller.
2006 Acura TL
Auto
Navi
Silver/Black
50,000miles

selling it for $17,000. Its a hell of a deal!. The car is up to date on on maintenance and has all the paper work for it. Should I still get a carfax or Autocheck on the vehicle? It still has warranty till the end of this month.

Which should I get? carfax or autocheck? ( ***MOD EDIT***- Carfax and VIN lookup requests are not permitted on AcuraZine***)

I will soon be joining the Acurazine family once again! I"m very excited!

Theres two ways to do this, one is not really honest persay, but it will get you both checks for the cost of one.
1) Post the car up forsale on ebay, you will get a free autocheck, then print it out and cancel your auction, if you get bids on it then you have personal problems.
2) Buy the carfax.

of course you can buy them both, and you should buy at least one, I've heard many stores of stuff showing up on autocheck that does not show up on carfax and vice versa so its better safe than sorry.

buy both and also have a Pre-purchase inspection done on the car. That'll show any problems the car may have such as a bad alignment, any bodywork that wasn't reported to either, etc.

When you are spending 17K, what's an extra 200 dollars to ensure that you are getting something rock solid....

I've found autocheck to be much more thorough than carfax, but ymmv.

I have my TL for sale on Ebay now for Free. I am selling in on Ebay Classifieds and a free autocheck is included. There are no bids involved, just a phone number where potential buyers can contact you.

i like carfax a lot more. i have had MUCH more info show up on carfax than autocheck, and i've used both. plus carfax lets you see UPDATED status of the car later on too, whereas autocheck only lets you see it at the current state.

Do both. Neither catches everything.

I used both Autocheck and Carfax on my last car purchase. When looking at certain vehicles, I found info on the Carfax report that wasn't on the Autocheck, and vice versa.

Eh I figure you can do it either way, Thats why I say if you get bids your doing it wrong since you should price your car where no one would want to bid on it :P But yeah either way works.

And again there is no favorite, as many have stated they both can catch things the other doesn't, one doesn't do more than the other so get both

Even if it doesnt show anything, you can pick out a little detail that might be incorrect and get a full refund from carfax.

For example, mine showed it had a lien and was a lease vehicle. Owner showed me the pink slip, no lien listed and it was fully owned. No issues transferring the title to me.

Emailed carfax and they refunded me the money.
