I have an 06 TL. The car has the auto shut off feature for the headlights. I was playing with the headlights and realized that when the car is off with highlights on It makes a dinging noise, but when I close the door and lock the car the lights completely shut off. It does the exact opposite for when you unlock the car, the lights are off but then when you unlock it they instantly turn on. I was wondering if this was going to kill my battery by leaving the headlights already on and using this feature. I just like how it looks when you unlock the car and walk up to it and headlights light up, I think it’s honestly looks kinda menacing. Like it’s staring you down. I was wondering if you guys have any knowledge on this?

 

The lights will shut off after a certain amount of time if you leave them on without locking the car. Same thing if you unlock the car but don't open the driver door or start the car, after a few moments they shut off again. They will not stay on and drain the battery.

 

Normal lock/unlock stuff, don't worry about it, the auto shutoff takes care of it and as long as your battery is healthy in general.

Also note that if you manually flip the lights on after the car is off, they auto shutoff does NOT work and it will kill your battery.

 

you can set the amount of time they stay on in the keyless entry setting.

 

Is there a way to turn off the "dinging" noise? I have it set in the menu to auto turn off, but when I open the door with the lights switched on, it still dings and drives me nuts.
