Hey guys. New here and wanted the communities thoughts. Found a very clean 07 TL-s 6spd manual with 120 miles on it. Had timing belt done 15k ago had clutch replaced 5k ago and has minor oil leak at oil filter. Car is on its second owner and when I drove it, it felt just fine and drove great. Just curious what the community thinks.

 

I think you'll love it. They are great cars with very little that goes wrong. Yes, individuals can have horror stories on a particular car, but overall I think you'll be satisfied. I know the older 04 - 06 can have issues with things like the bluetooth module, and Hondas in general can have door lock actuator issues. The only other thing I can think of that is really an issue on these cars overall is the compliance bushings, but it's more of a problem on the autos than manuals from what I understand. The autos are to be looked out for in the 04-06 years as well, but with a manual, I don't think you can go wrong! I'm on my second one!

 

Welcome aboard it sounds (based on what you have told us) the car has been maintained. Have you gotten a Carfax? Do you have a regular mechanic you use, who might be able to give it a once over (PPI?). If you post some pics some of the eagle-eye members might spot something.

 

Welcome and yes pics wil help us identify any non type s part on the car.

 

I work at a shop and are having my mechanics inspect it today. I know it's a type s and have already done a vin verification on it and pulled it up at my shop. It's been de badged. Has all the type s imprinting on the interior.

 

Members here can spot other things that look odd beside Type S and non Type S parts.
Having a shop (yours or otherwise) is a big plus

 

Ok here is the total list.
Original posting price 14k at 128k
Pros: timing belt done
Plugs all done
Power steering pump new
Two new tires
Very clean and well kept
New clutch

Cons:
Rear bumper scratch
Struts are oe
Needs inner tie rod
Needs two rear tires
Needs serp belt
Brake fluid trans and coolant need to be flushed.

After all this I am thinking 10-11k

 

Buy it! I've had mine a month now and love every minute behind the wheel.

 

are you SURE they did the timing belt? that belt would have been replaced if they did the timing belt. I am going to put money on someone pulled a fast one....

 

Agree with you. Anyone doing the timing would have done the serpentine because it's so ridiculously cheap.

Seems to me like someone was too tight on cash to do things properly. 2 new tires? What happened to buying full sets? Unless you're dead broke or you burned to hell your front tires, you don't just buy 2 new tires...

Same for brake fluid and coolant. Inspect the car thoroughly and make sure you don't get any bad surprises.

Your revised price seems better, 10K-11K since you gotta get some repairs done.

 

its a great car if taken care of. Most have horror stories but I have a feeling the original owner never took car of the car. Hondas will last forever if you take care of them.

Every car isn't made to last forever, honda parts are very cheap compared to other brands.

 

Ok so long story short. I told the guy where I was at and he said 13 firm. Kind of pisses me off cause I know the rarity of the car now a days. Hard to find a 6spd manual. He didn't want to take the 11k and said its worth way more than that. I know my cars and I'm not going to pay that premium price for something that needs at least 1500 of repairs my cost. I walked away sad and pissed. I still can't and wont convince myself to pay the 13 on it.

 

Did you show him the list of things it needs? Stay close to it-the longer it sits, the more anxious the owner will be to sell.

 

You were hoping to knock off 3k for that list? You're buying a used car. Of course it's going to need some work. That list you provided is like $800 at most to correct, which he was willing to drop, yet you wanted more of a discount. Sounds like he was being fair. Good luck finding a mint 6MT type-s for 14k lol. Maybe if you add another 6-10k on top of that lol.

Also, what's wrong with oe struts? At 120k they're still fine.

 

I mean if you're looking at a new set of tires you're probably at $800 right there plus all the other work. I'd say your 11 is reasonable but probably a little low. Especially since I've seen people buy a base with almost as many miles for the same price. As Steven said hang tight and they may come back to you

 

$13k for a TL-S MT at that mileage is fair price, they normally goes for $15k because the unicorn. I would have offer him $12.5k, because of the mileage there is some wear and tear items come along with it like tires and innter tire rod that normal for buying used car.

 

Also, if the water pump was done with the TB 15K miles ago, there should not be a need for a coolant flush.

 

^^^unless he didn't flush the whole system, looks like alot of corner being cut here since OP claim drive belt is in bad shape also.

 

I'm anxious to hear where Yakuza is on this.

 

Me too Steven...the serpentine belt should have been done with the timing belt. That makes no sense. $13K seems like a good price, but I would confirm by receipt or absolute evidence that the timing belt was done.

 

Just don't buy a car from this guy... he'll straight up lie to you about it...
