I have 3000K HID's for fogs and 6000K mains.
I've learned those HID kits aren't worth the extra cost for "name brand". I'm running 3 McCullough brand kits on various other vehicles and a no-name brand on the TL ($120 for the whole setup). I've never had a failure in 3+ years of operation. If it's cheaper to buy an entire replacement HID system than one single "name brand" system, I'll go that route.
These kits are amost all made in the same Chinese/Korean plants, and all I've purchased seem to be quite reliable.
I'll snap a pic tonight when it get dark.

here's the skinny...
Stock 9006 fogs run 55W steady state (ss). HIDs run 35W (ss). Inrush load (when you fist turn on the HID) is about 60W, steadily tapering down to 35W. 5 extra Watts for 4-6 second won't ever hurt your harness which is designed to handle 55W... If you ever get close to hurting anything you'll blow a fuse.
You can't wire directly to the existing harness with a 2007 TL, you must use a seperate harness.. They use 9008 fogs which run at 35W . 35W is enough for steady state HID, but remember, inrush is 55-60W... which will blow your 35W fuse every time.

Also.... is there anything special needed to make sure the dashboard warning light doesn't come on?

All you need is a kit like this:

you may have to ask for 3000K bulbs.

You can buy one from pilotHID for under $200 bucks. I got mine $185 shipped. On top of that, you can buy warranty. You can buy 5 yrs full replacement warranty for like 60 bucks. About $250 for 5 yrs, I think that's pretty good deal.
