^^^ NO

i do agree getting the type S is a little more cost effective...

you can sell the TYPE S rims/coilovers/exhaust/sway bars....so even if you upgrade your car it ends up being cheaper....

but yeah you have to pay 5-6K upfront (thats the cost difference between base and type S right ?)

the reason i didnt get a type S is this is my first car....paid 24K for it back in 07....cudnt afford 37-40K....just had graduated college.....plus i dont like red light in the interior

I would rather have my 6 speed base than an auto type S.

^^^ why are you comparing 2 different animals....

not like the type S is not available in 6speed....

we all do have to agree that the type S is a little more advanced than our Base....not that i would trade my base for a type S....but just saying....

I didn't see any other option. I wanted 2 things. 6 speed manual and a type S.

Buy what you can afford. But if you are gonna do performance mods better to start with the ol' american no replacement for displacement haha.

Seriously though did ya'll know you can find spare Type S 3.5L heads on a 03-04 Honda Odyssey.

I'm an old man. I love the soft suspension of my 08. I commute everyday and absolutely love the feeling of floating on clouds while cruising. So no way would I ever regret this and opt for the firmness of the typeS suspension.

i have no regrets, but i think i'm one of those few original owners. now, had the type-s been available in 2005....well, i might have that one in a 6MT rather than my base 6MT. since it wasn't available, and 2 years later the type-s came out, i didn't run off to the dealer eager to trade my base model in for a type-s just b/c of the extras the type-s offers. i was happy with what i had...i still am. my car gets a lot of love and it shows.

The only thing I regret is not getting the 6 speed.

blue dash lights>red dash lights, without question.

I kinda regretted it at first.

But Lord knows I'm gonna end up tweaking everything on my car anyway, so no regrets.

Besides... blue interior lights > red interior lights all day, yo.

I will be honest, I have owned both an 07 base and an 07 Type S and I dont recall noticing any difference in the ride firmness between the two. Both cars seemed relatively firm to me.

Here are my thoughts. The Type S is perfect for someone that doesnt want to tear apart their car and mod the shit out of it. So the Type S is like a base TL that comes modded right from the factory. Bigger brakes, different wheels, different exhaust, fancier headlights and tail lights, more HP, upgraded interior etc etc. Now if you buy a base and enjoy doing mods...well, just look at what guys on these forums do. Most people add Type S parts to their base ;-)
Someone can always regret getting the standard version of a car, but if you get the high end model you cant regret it because there is nothing better.

I don't regret getting an 08 base auto trans model over a Type-S. Sure a little more power would have been nice, but I came from a well over 300 hp to the wheels WRX that rode on rails, so I didn't care to have another rocket ship MT car. This car has enough pickup for me, it rides very smooth and it's comfortable for my daily commute to work. I could afford a Type-S, but I found a great deal on an 08 base so I didn't feel the need to spend more than I had to. As far as navigation, I have an external GPS that I use and like so I asked myself do I really need one built into the car? A friend of mine that has the built in navigation said it always seems like it takes him the long way and that there always seems to be a faster way to get to the destination.

Guys....

You all need to dial it down a notch.

OP, if you really want a Type S and you can afford one, be patient, be diligent with your search and you'll have what you want.

I bought my TL because I couldn't find a Type-S 6speed within my price range. My car had been totaled and my rental was due back so I ended up getting my base with nav.... and I love it! I miss having a 6 speed, but only when I think about it. When I see a Type-S I do get a little jealous because they look so damn good, but then the Type-S drives away and I forget all about. I like the blue interior lights and solid black interior of the base better than the red and two-tone of the Type S.

I really love my TL, but honestly if the opportunity came up to trade it in for a Type-S with a 6-speed I probably would. But I love my TL enough that I don't look for ones to trade it in for.

Great choice either way

I do like the 3.5l motor of the type s , but at the time i got the tl i didn't even knew there where tl-s type, but then again it was a matter of i let this opportunity pass or i search for the type-s. There are a couple of stuff that the tl-s has that might be attractive but I dont regret getting a base tl at all.

Either is a fine car in my opinion. In the end, I strongly believe it's your own personal preference whether you want a base or a Type-S. Just be sure that you're the one who's happy with the purchase! You'll be the one driving the car, not us!

But like one of the earlier posts stated, if you end up choosing the base TL, be sure it has navi!

I hope you find a great deal on a 3G TL that's in awesome condition!

screw the type S...u will regret buying the TL if its automatic. get a base and with the money u save u can get better suspension. as far as power, only difference between the Type s and base is a slightly larger displacment, 3.5 vs. 3.2, 600 cell vs 900 cell count cats, and different mufflers. Type is not that special compared to a base when you look at the difference between a bmw 325 and an M3. but then again if all your after for is that prestigious type S club and money is not an issue go for it. the head rest emblem is badass

I dont regret getting an automatic or the base model. My days of ricing out my car are over. Tint with decent rims and call it a day. This car stock, rides like a dream, corners extremely well and has everything I need in it to get my from point a to b rather quickly.

Same here except I have an 06. If it had been available, I would have one. But I am extremely happy with what I have.

You really can't compare a base/type s to a 3-series/M3. The difference in money isn't the same.

If I had been in the market in 07/08 when the type-s was re-introduced, I probably would have regretted a base purchase but lived with it. There are differences that make the car better that you can add with aftermarket or as some are doing and replacing the rack, FSB, etc. But in the end, you are trying to get to what it came stock with but for a lot more money. I love the look of the rear bumper and tips but not enough to justify trading it when mine was only a year old.

I agree with you on a few points but I don't see what is so "upgraded" on the TLS interior. Stitching on the door panels is a little different and the 2 tone seats, IMO, are terrible. I like solid colors. I think it would have been better with a darker color on the inner seat. As far as the bigger brakes go the 6MT base has the same Brembos as a TLS. I think it would be a lot cheaper to buy a base 6MT with navi. I just can't fathom spending $6K more for tail lights, exhaust, and head rests.
