Is anyone planning on putting in an aftermarket stereo setup?

Righhht, Were going to remove what is arguably the best OEM car stereo in the market to "improve it". Unless you're going to use the car for a boom boom competition the general answer is not a chance!

What controls belong on the steering wheel? On my accord its just radio controls, volume, etc. I replaced my stereo and didn't really care about thse controls.

Three Wheelin'
Since I leased my car I am not going to the trouble of messing with the OEM equipment, only to have to change it back in 3 years. But personally I don't find the TL's stereo to be all that and a bag of chips. As OEM equipment it's pretty darn good but I've heard better in a couple of Lexus models (LS and SC) and I've had way better myself using after-market stuff.
Oh, well, that's one thing I give up by leasing.

I agree that the TL has a phenomenol OEM stereo system however, for the audio fanatics, that may not be good enough.

I consider myself an audio fanatic. I use to have every car with a 12 inch sub, amps galore and high end head unit with separate speakers. I am now 26 and dont crank my music to extreme levels...the main reason because I have a wife now. However, one of the main reasons I bought this car was because of the OEM setup. Sure you can make it better, but why ruin what is already a great looking and sounding factory stereo!

yeah stock is great already. i barely go past 11 on the volume and its is loud and clear. i do not need big 12 inch subs vibrating the shit outta my car then complaining that there is rattle sounds in the rear.

What's not happening, pal ?
I agree that the system is great. I'm not disputing that. I'm just saying that for some, there is always room for improvement. And that doesn't necessarily mean adding 12" subs.

I would like to change the amp if....
It does'nt take 5.1 away and adds needed uumph.
I'm not of the 12" woofer mentallity and think 6-8" is fine. the speakers i believe can easily be swapped out to some high end models without loosing the "tuning" by said producer.
The deck is by panasonic right?
so the speakers are likely by the same and they show an upsize of "dvd-audio" speakers using a 12db filter to the tweeters.
My volume is usually 32-38 and im looking for more most of the time.
But I what i really want is a 5.1 dvd changer hooked up to the nav screen

I'm considering putting in a couple of 10's, but only if it doesn't adversely affect anything. I talked to a guy today about Diamond Audio, and I'm also looking at maybe JL Audio. I'll have to do a little more research to find the highest quality stuff. I don't need too much bass, but I would like a little extra thump, and keep the clean sound. I didn't have my car with me at the time, so I might bring it in tomorrow and see what options I have. I'm in no rush though...

I'm going to be adding a sub-woofer, not for huge boom boom but for tight low bass for songs that call for it and this system just can't dip low enough. I'm hoping to blend it in with the system so it sounds like Acura designed it.
Just need warmer weather...

All I want
All I want is a real MP3 player. The stereo in the Acura TL is impressive, but the lack of any MP3 player option is, quite frankly, stupid.
As far as I'm concerned, I *should* be able to add a fully integrated MP3 player that will display all ID3 tag information (album, band, track title) on the beautiful nav display. But I can't. So now I have to work out some kind of alternate solution involving burning DVD Audio disks with some third party software or something. That is just plain wrong.
And (although I don't have my TL yet to test this) I understand that the extremely nice stereo doesn't even read ID3 tags off of regular music CDs (I.E.: no album/track title in the display). If true, that is another "limitation" to this fantastic stereo. Can someone confirm/deny this?
So, with these limitation, I'm pretty interested in subtle aftermarket changes to the stereo. I don't want some 2000 watt system, I just want MP3s and display of track/album information, like any $200 CD deck these days can give.

Only if the place I'll be going to can find a way to by-pass the Navigation system so i can still have the stock Navi.
And yea It's a plan on installing a High-End upgrade but not for awhile. I want to do Car Audio (Sound Quality) competitions.
I do love this stock stereo but it won't hold up to compete.
List of thoughts:
DLS Front and rear components
Elemental Designs subwoofers
Zapco Amplifiers
either Alpine or Eclipse Head Unit.
*Very clean but custom trunk set-up
