Has anyone from New Jersey heard of a documentation fee for $298. when purchasing their car. the dealer said all the dealers in NJ charge this fee for the computer use and all this other bs. just curious has anyone heard of this fee.

also for a 2006 is 33,000 (destination included) before taxes and fees with auto with nav a good price?

For a 2006, your price sounds fair. As far as the doc fee, call other dealers in NJ and see if they charge it.

The documentation fee in New Jersey is just an add-on by the dealers to make profit. It is not a required fee even if it shows up preprinted on your contact/paperwork. Feel free to try and negotiate it away.

However, the price you've been quoted for a 2006 TL with NAV sounds pretty darn good even with the extra $298 fee. If invoice price on the car is ~$32,200 on the '06s and destination is ~$600, then you're paying "just" $500 over invoice when the $298 doc fee is added. That seems about right to me.

Be aware that there is a standard 4-year registration fee that was implemented in October 2004 in NJ. Here's a quote from the NJ MVC site:

"New Four-Year Accelerated Registration Program- New Jersey registration laws were amended on June 30, 2004 to establish a four-year registration period for new passenger vehicles. The Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) will implement this initiative, the Four-Year Accelerated Registration Program, on Oct. 1, 2004.

Upon the initial registration of all new vehicles, the owners will be required to make full payment of their registration fee for the four-year period. Motorists acquiring a new leased vehicle will have to pay the registration fee for the term of their lease. Motorists with lease agreements extending beyond the normal calendar year expiration period, e.g. 38-month leases as opposed to 36 months, would be required to pay the registration fee for the next full year’s registration period, e.g. 48 months."

The 4-year registration fee for the TL is $324. This fee is NOT negotiable.

I also live in New Jersey. I think $33,000 is a good price, but if they offered you that amount and you are patient enough, I bet you can lower a few more hundred dollars if you try harder.
Good luck with your purchase, don't you want a 6MT?

I think it's good for a 06. I got mine only $500 cheaper for an August model.

Great Price

hey that is a great price. Where are you getting that price?. I live in northern NJ.

I have been trying to purchase a left over 2005 with Navigation for the past two weeks and no one will go below invoice. Lowest I got was 32400 including destination. Tax, title and dealer fees were extra. I even went to the dealer with the money in hand and they would not go lower or compromise

Your price on a 2006 is just a little over invoice. That is a great deal. No dealer I talked to is willing to come close to your deal on a 2006. I tried DHC, Open Road, and Springfield acura. They were all charging the "standard" 290 documentation fee BS.

Tell me who is giving you that price on a 2006 Navigation model and I will go buy it from them today.

thanks.

Here is what mine said...

2005 TL 5AT W/O NAVI

Official Fees
Registration (4 yr)...$242.00

The thing that makes me mad is the STATE OF NJ TIRE FEE which cost me $7.50.

What is this for? I was told it was for taking away used tires. I asked how that applies to my new car with new tires and they told me I have no choice. I didn't want to argue over $7.50. I got the car with touch-up paint, so I guess it works out in the end.

BTW, I paid $31,400.00 for a NON-NAVI 5AT.

New Jersey is doing a thing where you pay for 4 years of registration when buying a new car.
The state gets all 4 years worth of money now, so it makes the books look better.

State law...

When I was looking to purchase my 2005 tl, a jersey dealer, a few miles past the george washington bridge, had my color in stock. We agree on a price, which seemed to be in the ballpark.
When I went there, they tried to add the doc fee on. I asked what the doc fee was for, and he actually tried to tell me, its a fee you have to pay in new jersey for releasing the car , from the docks.
I told him, he was full of spit, and he said he would have to talk to his manager, which took about one minute and they agreed to forgo the "doc""dock" fee.
I then told salesman, thats great. Now you lying sack of spit, you can forget about the sale also.
He proceeded to call my house almost every other day, for a month trying to sell me that car. I purchased the car, the same day, at acura in manhattan. I had to wait a few weeks , because it was a car, they had ordered for their inventory, but not yet built. I got it three days after the assigned build date.
Dont believe those doc fees in jersey. Once a salesman tells me some bald face lie, I walk out.

When i purchased my TL, I didn't have to pay for the documentation fee... I think the only fee I had to pay was the destination charge. If you bargain, I think you would able to get rid of that $298.
