It really depends your situation, like where you live and if there is a high rate of theft. THe Lo-Jack wont stop theft it will locate the car once its stolen.

if i did have to buy one, i'd go with mobile gaurdian as it is GPS based and you can track your car anytime anywhere. Also it is much cheaper at around 500 dollars.

I lived in SF, and i don't have a garage, so i guess that's a good idea to install it since i'm parking on the street. I think i'm going to install the $995 w/ early warning one, they give you a sensor, when someone drive (i think the lojack will send out signal when the car is over 5mph w/o the sensor) your TL w/o the sensor, they will contact you to make sure you are driving the car not some body else. I'll go ahead to install it tomorrow then.

PS. I think the price for lojack is the same on dealer or outside contractor, I search the internet, the other lojack installer charge the same money for that, $600 for the recovery, $395 for the early warning.

Anyone can get that at lower price?

DO NOT DO LOJACK!!!! lojack is run off of cellular phone towers and if the car is placed in a garage, the lojack is useless. Also the police can only track your car using lojack. lo jack is very easily to overcome and cannot stop a theif that easily.

this site explains the benfits of GPS verus lojack:

it would be beneficial to your insurance rate to have low jack or GPS installed... but truthfully for me, if someone steals my car, i don't ever want to see it again.. just give me the insurance money and ill get a new car...

Don't bet on a drop in insurance premiums. I bought an '05 Odessy with LoJack and my company didn't drop their rates a penny.

Guess their loss experience with & without LoJack is the same.

Spend the money on good comprehensive insurance, instead of Lojack. You don't want the car back after it's stolen.

Think about it... If its stolen do you want it back. You should take that 1000 bux and put it toward insurance... Then hope it gets stolen.

Heck buy an alarm at least then you will get a discount on your insurance.

I don't like Lo-Jack simply b/c it's (a) only activated by the police after having filed a report, and (b) only reports information to said authorities, leaving the owner of the vehicle in "la-la land." I use MicroTrackGPS (http://www.microtrakgps.com/docs/Auto_Brochure.pdf). I can see where my car's going, where it's been, how fast, etc. I use it whenever I let other people (the VERY FEW people I allow) drive my car - it's kinda cool and not expensive, compared to LJ.

The Microtrack Locate1 costs a one-time payment $499, and requires no hard wiring installation. It can be puchased either through their site or any Sharper Image retailer. They also have more sophisticated, hard-wired systems, but I didn't find that necessary. The portable device works just fine (as long as it's HIDDEN in the car and not place in an obvious location). Mine is inside the trunk beneath the rubber mat under the spare.
